Jaguars On The Island is renowned as the largest gathering of Jaguar cars in North America. Initiated by the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria during the summer of 2005, it is the signal annual event for the club. There are activities planned during the 22-24 July weekend for participants at the Marriott Delta Ocean Pointe hotel with the Concours d’ Elegance car show at Windsor Park, Oak Bay on Saturday 23 July from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the main event with free admission for the public.

This year’s event will be the first held since 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions that caused the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 events. In addition to local participants, the event typically sees Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) members travel to Victoria from the BC mainland, western provinces and Washington, Oregon, and California - with others coming from locales even further afield in both countries. Given the historically high attendance levels and number of participating vehicles, it is a major event in the annual JCNA calendar. The event is open to non-JCNA participants as “enthusiast’ class entries for a $25 registration fee at the gate or online at: https://jaguarclubvictoria.ca/joti-2022-online-registration/.

This year’s feature cars are the early model XK 120, 140 and 150 series sports cars as represented by the special guest car ‘Mabel’ - a 1955 XK 140 from the United States. Mabel, a book of the same name is about the adventures experienced by a trio of vintage car aficionados during a road trip through the wilds of the Pacific Northwest to Canada in the 1980s. ‘Mabel’, as the vehicular protagonist in the story, possessed an eccentric mechanical character that vintage car owners might relate to. Jon Rogers, one of the trio of adventurers who made this trip, will be our special guest at this year’s event.

A sub-theme in this year’s event is recognition of the Royal Platinum Jubilee with a special display comprising of a ‘Royal Family’ of classic Jaguars owned by club member Doug Irving. He will be exhibiting the following trio of beautifully maintained cars - each assigned a royal namesake- with their associated histories:
• Elizabeth - 1950 Jaguar Mk V
• Margaret - 1962 Jaguar Mk II
• Diana – 2002 Jaguar XKR

An important aspect of holding Jaguars On The Island is that the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria supports its designated charity-of-choice Victoria Hospice with proceeds raised from the event. This provides support to those in our community in need during end-of-life care and palliative treatment through this benevolent facility. The club maintained this support during the past two years but is happy to see it resume with a public event for the enjoyment of the community at large.

Jaguars On The Island 2022 is a part of a weekend of car show events in Oak Bay with the Oak Bay Collector Car Festival on Sunday 24 July. This car show is a long standing tradition in the Oak Bay annual events calendar that is also re-starting after a two-year Covid-19 hiatus. It fills the main street in Oak Bay with hundreds of cars of all types, makes and ages.
