SCUBA Diving

The waters off Oak Bay provide abundant sea life, steep walls, and kelp forests for SCUBA divers to explore, although strong currents require both skill and local knowledge to dive safely. The Salish Sea is home to the giant pacific octopus, salmon, wolf eels, seals, massive rockfish, swimming scallops, and much more. Of unique interest, the Salish Sea is one of only two known locations globally where the bluntnose sixgill shark comes to shallow waters.  Normally found at depths of 300-6,000 ft, this large (up to 5.5m) and slow-moving shark will at times swim in local waters as shallow as 5m.  More information on SCUBA activities can be found on the Tourism Oak Bay website.
