Stay up to date on development applications in the District
Visit the District's Development Application Tracker, which provides information on current development applications in Oak Bay.
District of Oak Bay is now accepting digital building permit applications. Payment of fees can also be managed over the phone, where you can arrange for payment with your credit card.
If you are applying for a new application:
Please review all the content within the building permit application form to ensure you have a complete application.
Submit your complete electronic application, including your building permit plans and ALL supporting materials, including a Certificate of Title (dated within 30 days of the date of the application) in PDF format to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note the civic address in the subject line of the email.
Staff will contact you to confirm receipt and advise you of the application fee.
Once a complete application is made, staff will review and process your application.
When your building permit is ready to be issued, the building permit will be emailed to you. Full payment of fees is required prior to the building permit being issued.
For Building Inspections, please note that at this time, the Building Inspector will require that a physical distance of at least 2 metres (6 feet) is adhered to at all times between the Inspector and any other construction personnel or owners / residents at this time.
Arrange an Inspection
To arrange a building or plumbing inspection, contact the Building Clerk at 250-598-2042 extension 7496. If calling after office hours, please be sure to leave a voice message with the following information:
1. the civic address of the building site
2. the date for which the inspection is requested.
3. the type of inspection requested (e.g., foundation, framing, insulation, plumbing, final, etc.)
4. the name and phone number of caller
