Fitness Studio at Oak Bay Recreation is opening for pre-registered sessions and programs.

The Studio opens June 22, for pre-registered sessions. Programs and classes begin June 29th. Please see the Fitness and Wellness Guide on the Active Living Guide page for program information.

Hours for Fitness Studio:

Monday-Friday: 7:00am-8:00pm
Saturday: 7:00am-7:00pm

You must register online in advance for your workout at the Studio, please see directions below.

Fitness Studio Sessions at Oak Bay Recreation Centre

Good news, you can now register online in advance for your workout at the Oak Bay Fitness Studio! Workout times are available from 7:00am-8:00pm Monday-Friday and Saturdays from 7:00am-7:00pm in 1.5 hour timeslots. Please follow the steps below to select a time that works for you and secure your spot. Each time slot is limited to 15 participants due to social distancing requirements. Registration is available up to 1 week in advance.
At this time we are unable to accommodate any drop-ins and you must register in advance to gain access to the Fitness Studio at Oak Bay. For more information please contact the Fitness Programmer, 250-370-7117, or Reception, 250-595-7946.

Registrants must arrive 5 minutes before their session start time. Please line up in designated area outside the lobby. Reception will check each participant in prior to entering the building.

 

Steps to register online – Fitness Classes and Fitness Studio Sessions

Step 1:     Ensure your Oak Bay online account and login is set up and your birthdate is accurate. If you do not have account you will need to set-up one by call reception at 250-595-7946.

Step 2:     Login with username and password at: oakbayrec.perfectmind.com

Step 3:     Click the Schedule Button near the top left of the screen.

Step 4:     Click Fitness Studio Sessions, Group Fitness Classes etc., under the Fitness and Wellness menu.

Step 5:     Select date and the timeslot/class you would like to attend and click REGISTER.

NOTE: All sessions are available for viewing online however, registration opens each week at 12:00pm Monday for the following week, online and over the phone for the Fitness Studio Session time, Indoor Cycle and Indoor Bootcamp. 

Step 6:     On the next screen, click REGISTER a 2nd time.

Step 7:     Select the person to register in the session and select NEXT

Step 8:     Select your method of payment.

Step 9:   Follow instructions on screen and complete registration.

Fitness Studio COVID-19 Guidelines for Use

The health and safety of our public and staff is a top priority. It is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

The following protocols will support our efforts to maintain a safe environment in the fitness Studio.

  • No drop-ins will be available at this time, all access to the fitness studio must be pre-registered online or by phone with our Reception team at 250-595-7946.
  • Please practice physical distancing when attending all Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture programs. Remain 2 metres apart at all times.
  • Please arrive dressed to workout as change rooms and showers will not be available.
  • Please limit what you bring with you as there will be limited storage capacity available. When using storage please clean it with disinfectant before and after use.
  • Washrooms will be available with restricted capacity.
  • Wash your hands or clean them with hand sanitizer upon arrival and before you leave the facility. We will have hand sanitizer available in common areas.
  • Upon entering the Fitness Studio, each person will be provided a bottle of disinfectant spray to use for the duration of their workout. Paper towel will be available throughout the Fitness Studio.
  • You will have access to cardio equipment, strength machines, free weights, benches, squat racks and barbells. Equipment which may not easily be sanitized has been removed (foam rollers, stability balls, bands, mats, etc.)
  •  You will be required to clean equipment after use with disinfectant spray and paper towel. Please follow outlined instructions as posted.
  • Equipment has been moved to provide more space to ensure physical distancing. As such the stretching area will not be available for stretching as the space is now occupied with equipment. The Fitness Activity Room will also not be available during your scheduled workout time.
  • Equipment should not be shared or used simultaneously (no partner workouts, circuits or working in with others will be allowed).
  • Avoid spotting and only lift what you can manage on your own.
  • All common touch surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized regularly. Cleaning times have been built into the overall fitness studio schedule.
  • Please leave using the exit at the back of the Fitness Studio.

Rules are subject to change and will be updated as needed. Those disregarding rules may be asked to leave the facility.

Indoor Bootcamp & Jazzercise COVID-19 Safety Protocols                                                           

  • If you are sick or have any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not attend class. If you have symptoms, please call 8-1-1 or use the BCCDC self-assessment tool.
  • Stay home if you have travelled in the past 14 days OR if someone in your household is sick. Cancellations/refunds will be offered if you are sick or have symptoms which prevent you from attending.
  • Please enter and exit Henderson Centre through the gymnasium doors.
  • Please practice physical distancing when attending all Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture programs.
  • To support physical distancing, participants will have designated workout space of 6ft all around to ensure participants and instructor safety.
  • All touch point will be cleaned and sanitized between classes.
  • Washrooms are available onsite with use restricted to one person at a time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer and to use it each time they touch a surface. There are hand sanitizer dispenser in the gymnasium.

Indoor Cycling COVID-19 Safety Protocols

  • Please enter and exit Henderson Centre using the back entrance to the building by the Quail room.
  • Please practice physical distancing when attending all Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture programs.
  • To support physical distancing, each bike will be set up with 6ft of space around to ensure participants and instructor safety. Maximum participation is 10 participants to ensure appropriate spacing
  • All bikes will be cleaned and sanitized between classes.
  • Washrooms are available onsite with use restricted to one person at a time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer and to use it each time they touch a surface. There is a hand sanitizer dispenser in the Quail room.

Rules are subject to change and will be updated as needed. Those disregarding rules may be asked to leave the facility.
