Henderson Weightroom Hours


Weightroom Mimimum Age Requirement Change 

As of September 1st, 2024, to align with regional age requirements, the minimum age to drop in at Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture (OBPRC) Weightrooms will be 16 yrs. Those aged 13-15 yrs. may register for a Regional Youth Weightroom Orientation. Upon successful completion, orientation participants will receive a Youth Fitness Exemption card which must be presented at time of entry, permitting youth 13-15 yrs. access to OBPRC Weightrooms either during staff-attended times or when accompanied by an adult 19 yrs. or older. There may be additional requirements to gain access to Weightrooms in other municipalities. Learn more


Personal Training Available

Personal Training rates will increase by 5% September 1st, 2024 (the last fee increase was in 2017). This change will allow us to continue to deliver exceptional Personal Training services while remaining aligned with other municipalities.

The Weightroom at Henderson Recreation Centre

Located right across from reception in Henderson Recreation Centre, the Weightoom has full windows on two sides of the room, with views of the gardens in front of the building and the golf course.

Patrons must be 15 years and older to use the Weightroom. Youth 13 and 14 years may use the Weightroom after completion of the Regional Youth Fitness Orientation. Youth are required to bring their Fitness Exemption pass when accessing the Weightroom.

The Weightroom at Oak Bay Recreation Centre

The Weightroom at Oak Bay Recreation Centre is located on the second floor. Once you visit the admission/reception area take the stairs located nearby or use the elevator adjacent to reception. The large Weightroom features full-length windows overlooking Bee Street.

Indoor Cycling and Fitness Classes

TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING

Achieve a full body workout through this heart-pumping strength and conditioning class. Challenge yourself as you utilize body weight, high and low intensity intervals, free weights, and more!

TOTAL BODY FITNESS

A well-rounded, full body workout focusing on strength, agility, stability, and more using a variety of equipment such as free weights, body weight, bands, exercise balls, and cardiovascular exercises. Enhance your full body strength and fitness.

TOTAL BODY STRENGTH

Full body strength and endurance exercises will get your heart pumping, muscles working, and body and mind feeling great in this action-packed class! A continuous series of full body strength, athletic movements, free weights, core exercises, and intervals.

TOTAL BODY EXPRESS

Everything you can expect from our full-length Total Body classes condensed into 45 minutes. This express class is designed to challenge your further, get your muscles pumping, your heart rate up and sweat on in a short amount of time. Perfect for those “on the go”!

CYCLE GROUP FITNESS

A combination of basic cycling movements and cardio drills by varying speed and resistance levels on the Keiser M3 indoor cycle. Burn calories and build strength while you simulate sprints, hill climbing, intervals, and races for a non-impact class. All bikes allow for both regular athletic shoes and cleated bicycle shoes.

CYCLING & STRENGTH

Enjoy an indoor cycling class sprinkled with bodyweight and free weight movements for the ultimate balanced workout.

CIRCUIT TRAINING

These classes combine exercise stations of cardiovascular equipment, exercise balls, weight machines, TRX, body weight, and free weights to create a fun and balanced workout. Stations incorporate a variety of training methods to add variety and progression to your workouts that will challenge and motivate you. If you are new to the Weightroom, please register for a General Weightroom Orientation prior to your first class.

INDOOR BOOTCAMP

Bootcamp is a cardio and strength conditioning, and a full body workout wrapped into one action-packed hour! Expect to challenge your mind and body as you alternate between high-intensity and low-intensity exercises through timed intervals using free weights, bands, plyometrics, and cardiovascular training.

DANCE EXPRESS

This dance-based aerobics class is guaranteed to get your heart pumping and is suitable for adults of all ages! Using a combination of energy inducing music and fun and easy to follow dance combinations you’ll forget you're even working out! 

How to Register for Fitness Classes and Indoor Cycling
  1. Reserve up to four (4) days in advance to the start time of your desired session. For example: Book to work out Thursday 11:30am–1:00pm by registering Sunday at 11:30am.
  2. Book online at Recreation.OakBay.ca or oakbayrec.perfectmind.com or call Oak Bay Recreation Centre (250-595-7946) or Henderson Centre (250-370-7200).
  3. Payment must be made at time of booking. Memberships, Punch Passes and credit cards are accepted methods of payment.

Steps to Register

  1. Ensure your Oak Bay online account and login is set up and your birthdate is accurate. If you do not have account you will need to set-up one by call reception at 250-595-7946.
  2. Login with username and password at: oakbayrec.perfectmind.com
  3. Click the Schedule Button near the top left of the screen.
  4. Click Group Fitness Classes under the Fitness and Wellness menu.
  5.  Select date and the timeslot/class you would like to attend and click REGISTER.
  6. On the next screen, click REGISTER a 2nd time.
  7. Select the person to register in the session and select NEXT.
  8. Select your method of payment.
  9. Follow instructions on screen and complete registration.
  10. Registrants should not arrive earlier than five minutes before their session start time.

NOTE: Payment is required at the time of registration.
