This work is under the direction of the Lounge Supervisor in menu planning, organizing the kitchen, maintaining supplies, preparing and presenting nutritional and tasty meals, soups and sandwiches.


  • Prepares daily menu items as ordered by patrons or Supervisor;

  • Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public;

  • Ensures cooking and service area are kept clean at all times;

  • Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor of any shortages, repairs, etc;

  • Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary;

  • Carves meats, portions food on plates to fill individual orders and buffets.


  • Cooking experience in a similar environment;

  • Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent industry experience and training;

  • Food Safe Level 1;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.


  • Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 7am–10pm up to a maximum of 25 hours per week.


$15.07 per hour + $2.11 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)


Head Cook

Monterey Recreation Centre

We are looking for an energetic, creative and versatile individual to fill the position of Head Cook at Monterey Centre. This skilled position is responsible for planning and preparing daily menus, supervising food and beverage service staff and volunteers, maintaining cost controls as set by Parks, Recreation & Culture administration, and ensuring satisfactory services to Monterey Centre patrons so that such services operate in a smooth, effective manner.


  • Supervises food/beverage services, including responsibility for hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating staff and maintaining accurate supply and stock controls;

  • Maintains cost controls and develops menu and pricing recommendations;

  • Plans, prepares and presents nutritional and tasty meals to meet the needs of the older population;

  • Arranges all details with respect to provision of banquets and special events for up to 200-300 people;

  • Performs all duties related to provision of food and beverages and ensures that all Liquor Control, Health and Municipal guidelines are met;

  • Works effectively and harmoniously with staff and patrons;

  • Works independently and responsibly without direct supervision;

  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • Successful completion of a recognized food and beverage training course;

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in all areas of the restaurant industry, including high volume banquets and/or events;

  • Food Safe and Serving it Right Certificates;

  • Current BC Driver’s License (class 5);

  • Current CPR ‘C’ and OFA Level I certifications;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.


  • Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:00pm, 35 hours per week

(Hours may vary based on operational requirements to include evenings and weekends)

Rate of Pay:

  • $1944.60 – 2030.70 bi-weekly ($27.78 – 29.01 per hour) – 2018 rates plus municipal benefits.


Instructor - Licensed Care Pre-School Playhouse Program

September 2018 to June 2019

This is a recreation position for an Instructor in our licensed Preschool Playhouse program. Under the direction of the Community Recreation Programmer of Licensed Care, the Instructor will plan, prepare and implement a creative, stimulating preschool program for children ages 3-5 years.


  • Plan, supervise and lead a preschool program for up to 16 children;

  • Work within Community Care Facilities Licensing Board regulations;

  • Supervise staff, ECE students and support workers;

  • Plan and implement a daily schedule of activities suitable for children 3-5 years of age;

  • Prepare monthly calendars/newsletters for parents;

  • Adhere to all safety standards;

  • Ensure program areas are kept clean and well-maintained at all times;

  • Work with children, parents, staff and public in a warm and friendly manner.


  • Applicant must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institute (and licensed to practice in BC);

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements to work with the relevant age group;

  • CPR-C and Emergency First Aid;

  • Experience instructing pre-schoolers in a child care/recreational environment;

  • Provision of a current Criminal Record check.


  • 8:30am – 12:15pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday (1 position) 12:45pm – 4:30 pm Monday, Wednesday & Friday (1 position) Applicants are welcome to apply for either, or both positions.


  • $18.83-$19.75 per hour plus $2.45 -$2.57 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates).
