This work is under the direction of the Lounge Supervisor in menu planning, organizing the kitchen, maintaining supplies, preparing and presenting nutritional and tasty meals, soups and sandwiches.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares daily menu items as ordered by patrons or Supervisor;

  • Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public;

  • Ensures cooking and service area are kept clean at all times;

  • Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor of any shortages, repairs, etc;

  • Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary;

  • Carves meats, portions food on plates to fill individual orders and buffets.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent industry experience and training;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 7am–10pm up to a maximum of 25 hours per week.

Rate:

The Lounge Host II reports to the Lounge Supervisor and is responsible for the enforcement of age restrictions and the maintenance and controls of an orderly facility.

Facility Maintenance Person/Technician

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

Full-Time

This is semi-skilled and skilled work pertaining to the operation of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Neighbourhood Learning Centre and tennis bubbles. Employees in this position perform operational and mechanical maintenance functions including, but not limited to, building heating systems, pool heating and filtration, air filtration systems, air support structures, arena ice making and maintenance, pool chemical treatment and maintenance, as well as custodial tasks as required.

Applicants should have a good knowledge of refrigeration, heating and filtration systems and air support structures used in arenas, pools, ice rinks, tennis bubbles, food service areas, including safe handling of chemicals necessary for the protection of staff and the public, together with a sound working knowledge of all trades including carpentry, plumbing, welding and painting. 

Qualifications:

  • Refrigerator Operator Certification, or 5th Class Power Engineer Refrigeration endorsement;

  • Minimum of 5 years closely related mechanical and operational experience in recreation facilities maintenance, including pools, arena, tennis bubbles, with refrigeration and pool filtration systems;

  • Pool Operator's Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates;

  • Current CPR-C certificate;

  • Valid BC Driver’s License;

  • Provision of a Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Varied 5 week rotation (40 hours per week) as follows:

  • Week 1-5        2:00pm – 10:00pm (Mon/Tues); 8:00am – 4:00pm (W/Th/Fri);

  • Week 6-10      2:00pm – 10:00pm (M-F);

  • Week 11-15    2:00pm – 10:00pm (Wed-Sun).

Hours and days subject to variation to meet operational requirements.

Salary:            

  • $29.59 - $31.66 per hour - day shift

  • $28.88 - $30.60 per hour - afternoon shift

Benefits include Municipal Pension Plan, extended health and dental coverage, vacation and sick entitlement.

 

Parks Equipment Operator I

Temporary Full-Time

Coverage for Medical Leave of Absence - up to a 6 month term

This is a temporary full time position that is currently vacant due to medical leave. The Parks Department requires a full time Parks Equipment Operator 1 to perform semi-skilled work in the operation and minor servicing of a variety of parks vehicles and equipment.  Specific assignments are received from a superior, who evaluates the work in terms of safe and efficient equipment operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates light trucks, up to single axle, used for handling materials, equipment and workers;

  • Operates light rollers for road or construction work;

  • Operates light trucks equipped with garbage pickup equipment, and performs related garbage pickup duties;

  • Operates professional power mowers in parks, boulevards or cemeteries;

  • Operates mobile or stationary power equipment in the maintenance and construction tasks such as brushcutting, cleaning sidewalks, drilling or breaking rock, asphalt, concrete or other material;

  • Operates air compressors, concrete mixers, small vibrator-packers, or similar light equipment;

  • Operates light tractors equipped with loader or blade;

  • Services and carries out maintenance tasks on any of the equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Some experience in the operation of equipment in the performance of a variety of construction and maintenance tasks;

  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers license.

Hours:            

  • 40 hrs/week.

Rate of Pay:               

  • $27.13 per hour

 

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Paddington Station

Applications are invited for an on-call auxiliary position at our Paddington Station Day Care. The successful candidate will have the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to work with the children, parents and staff  in a friendly and effective manner. Duties include set up and clean up, guiding children and assisting in the program, which may include circle and art time as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator, or an Early Childhood Educator Assistant in British Columbia;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Must meet Vancouver Island Health Authority licensing requirements for Criminal Record check, Doctor’s note and current  First Aid and CPR;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.                                      

Hours:    

  • This is an on-call position to cover for vacation and sick relief.

  • The hours of operation at Paddington Station are Monday to Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm

Rate of pay:

Program Attendant/Driver - Licensed Care

After School Care Program

September 2019 - June 2020

We are seeking Program Attendants with Class 4 B.C. Drivers Licenses for our Licensed After School Care Program for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children;

  • Responsible for driving the bus on out trips.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;

  • Current unrestricted Class 4 B.C. Drivers License.

Locations:

Rate:               

  • Attendant rate: $16.19 per hour plus $2.27 per hour in lieu of benefits

  • Driving rate: $18.00 per hour plus $2.52 per hour in lieu of benefits (this rate paid while driving the bus)

Hours:            

  • As required up to 15 hours per week.

  • Program hours are Monday to Friday: 2:30-5:30 pm.

  • Hours may vary according to school pick up times, school breaks, and enrollment.
