Aquatic Instructor - Water Safety Instructor Trainer

Community Recreation - Program Attendants

Kindergym

Henderson Recreation Centre

Program Attendants liaise with parents and children and lead circle time and group activities while ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for patrons. A warm, friendly rapport with children, parents, and staff, plus the energy and enthusiasm to ensure varied and enjoyable programs are essential for these positions. Attendants will also be responsible for the set-up, take down, and cleaning of the equipment.

Golf Instructors

Henderson Recreation Centre

Applications are invited for Golf Instructors at the Henderson Park Par 3 Golf Course. Instructors are responsible for lesson planning, organizing and instructing golf lessons for adults, teens and children. Applicants should have a well-rounded golf background and will be responsible for teaching materials under the guidance of the Community Recreation Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • A strong background in golf;

  • Experience teaching a variety of ages;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Ability to interact with patrons in a warm, friendly manner;

  • Be able to create a fun learning environment;

  • NCCP Level-1 or equivalent golf coaching certification;

Group Daycare Assistant

Temporary Full-Time

Coverage for Medical Leave of Absence – minimum 8 week term

Applications are invited for a temporary full time Group Daycare Assistant at the Paddington Station Daycare in the Neighbourhood Learning Centre beginning February 10, 2020. The daycare program follows the Learning through Play philosophy.

A warm relationship with children, the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to work with the children, parents and staff in a friendly and effective manner, are essential for this position. The successful applicant must possess the ability, knowledge and skills to plan, organize and implement age appropriate activities as well as work independently and responsibly without direct supervision.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with preschool aged children;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Applicant must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institute (and licensed to practice in BC);

  • Must meet BC Child Care Licensing requirements for valid Emergency First Aid and CPR-C;

  • Current BC Class 4 Driver’s Licence and abstract;

  • Provision of a current Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Varying hours between 7:30am – 5:30pm, Monday - Friday.

Rate of Pay:   

  • $28.56 - $29.46 per hour plus $4.00 - $4.12 per hour in lieu of benefits.

 

 

Maintenance Person(s)

Oak Bay Recreation Centre & Neighbourhood Learning Centre

We invite applications from qualified candidates for maintenance auxiliary hours involving janitorial, custodial and preventative building and equipment maintenance work performed in an Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture Department Facility.  The auxiliary Facility Maintenance Person, under the direction of the facility’s supervisor, will carry out maintenance functions including pool heating and filtration system maintenance without close supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the assigned area during a shift;

  • Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping as required;

  • Cleaning washrooms and change room areas;

  • Set up rooms as per schedule;

  • Performs routine minor maintenance of equipment, pool chemistry, data readings, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Sound working knowledge and experience with building maintenance and cleaning routines;

  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment;

  • Proven initiative and ability to work without close supervision;

  • Current CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:  

  • Day, afternoon and night shifts, based on operational requirements, up to 20 hours per week.

Rate:  

  • $21.07 - $21.38 per hour + $2.95 - $2.99 per hour in lieu of benefits

  • $28.91 per hour + $4.05 per hour in lieu of benefits (with Refrigeration Operator and Pool Operator 1 & 2 certification)

 

Program Attendants - Golf

Henderson Recreation Centre

This is recreation work related to the operation of the Henderson Park Par 3 Golf Course. This position monitors that participants have paid, and are following golf course rules and etiquette to ensure the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants and members of the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that golf course rules and etiquette are followed;

  • Ensure that the golf course and equipment are being properly maintained;

  • Ensure the safety of the participants at all times;

  • Check court tags and ensure appropriate play on outdoor tennis courts.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the game of golf required;

  • Ability to work effectively with members of the public and staff in a diplomatic and tactful manner;

  • Ability to work without direct supervision in an independent and responsible manner;

  • Current Emergency First Aid, and CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.                   

Hours:

  • Variable shifts. Approximately 2-5 hours per day, to a maximum of 25 hours per week

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Paddington Station

Qualifications:

  • Possess a license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator, or an Early Childhood Educator Assistant in British Columbia;

Program Attendants - Licensed Care

After School Care Program

We are seeking Program Attendants for our Licensed After School Care Program for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

Program Team Leader - Licensed Care

Before School Care Program

This is a recreation position for a Program Team Leader with the Licensed After School Care Program, for children kindergarten to grade 5.  Under the direction of the Community Recreation Programmer, the Program Team Leader will plan, prepare and supervise a safe, fun, and stimulating program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements daily schedule of activities and prepares monthly calendar and newsletter for parents;

  • Works co-operatively with fellow Team Leaders and the Community Recreation Programmer to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas are kept neat and tidy;

  • Supervises attendants on a daily basis;

  • Ensures attendants are prepared for each day’s events and that all supplies and materials are available;

  • Liaises with children, parents, and staff  in a warm and friendly manner;

  • Ensures programs are compliant with VIHA Licensing regulations;

  • Completes necessary administrative work.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Current Class 4 Unrestricted BC Driver's Licence and Driver’s Abstract; 

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications, 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Minimum two years experience working with school aged children in a recreational setting;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;

  • Related supervisory experience.

Hours and Location:

  • Before School Care – Neighbourhood Learning Centre: Monday – Friday, 7:15 – 10:15am*

*as required up to 25 hours per week

Rate:
