HEAD COOK

Monterey Recreation Centre

We are looking for an energetic, creative and versatile individual to fill the position of Head Cook at Monterey Centre.  This skilled position is responsible for planning and preparing daily menus, supervising food and beverage service staff and volunteers, maintaining cost controls as set by Parks, Recreation & Culture administration, and ensuring satisfactory services to Monterey Centre patrons so that such services operate in a smooth, effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises food/beverage services, including responsibility for hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating staff and maintaining accurate supply and stock controls;
  • Maintains cost controls and develops menu and pricing recommendations;
  • Plans, prepares and presents nutritional and tasty meals to meet the needs of the older population;
  • Arranges all details with respect to provision of banquets and special events for up to 200-300 people;
  • Performs all duties related to provision of food and beverages and ensures that all Liquor Control, Health and Municipal guidelines are met;
  • Works effectively and harmoniously with staff and patrons;
  • Works independently and responsibly without direct supervision;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a recognized food and beverage training course;
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in all areas of the restaurant industry, including high volume banquets and/or events;
  • Food Safe and Serving it Right Certificates;
  • Current BC Driver’s License (class 5);
  • Current CPR ‘C’ and OFA Level I certifications;
  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:   

Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:00pm, 35 hours per week (Hours may vary based on operational requirements to include evenings and weekends)

Rate:      $2023.70 - $2112.60 bi-weekly ($28.91 – $30.18 per hour) plus municipal benefits (2020 rates).

PROGRAM ATTENDANT/DRIVER - LICENSED CARE

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM

We are seeking Program Attendants with Class 4 B.C. Drivers Licenses for our Licensed Before and After School Care Programs for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;
  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;
  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;
  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;
  • Liaises with children and parents;
  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children;
  • Responsible for driving the bus on out trips.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;
  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;
  • Ability to work as an effective team member;
  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;
  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;
  • Current unrestricted Class 4 B.C. Drivers License.

Rate:      

Attendant rate: $16.51 per hour plus $2.31 per hour in lieu of benefits (2020 rates)

Driving rate:     $18.36 per hour plus $2.57 per hour in lieu of benefits

Program hours are Monday to Friday: 7:15-9:15am and 1:45-5:30 pm.

TENNIS INSTRUCTOR/ATTENDANT

OAK BAY RECREATION CENTRE

Recreation Oak Bay has immediate openings for enthusiastic Tennis Instructors and Attendants for various lessons at both adult and junior levels. Working under the Tennis Program Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants.

Requirements:

  • Tennis Canada, minimum Instructor level certification;
  • Previous teaching experience required;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Must be comfortable teaching both adults and juniors;
  • Emergency First Aid and current CPR-C certification;
  • Provision of a current police or RCMP Criminal Record check
  • Professional Membership with the TPA (Tennis Professional Association)

Locations: Oak Bay Recreation Centre

Rate:    Instructor: $20.28 to $21.28 per hour + $2.84 to $2.98 per hour in lieu of benefits
Attendant: $14.60 per hour + $2.04 in lieu of benefits

Hours:  Various hours as required up to 25 hours per week, working with adults as well as juniors ages 5-11 years.

 FITNESS STUDIO ATTENDANTS

RECREATION OAK BAY FITNESS STUDIO

Fitness Studio Attendants are responsible for monitoring patrons using the fitness centre, and maintaining a safe environment at Recreation Oak Bay. Responsibilities include assisting and answering patron’s questions, and cleaning equipment. Opportunities for Personal Training are possible for candidates with the appropriate qualifications.

Qualifications:

  • Previous fitness experience in a similar environment;
  • Must be a Registered BCRPA Fitness Leader in weight training or equivalent;
  • Registered BCRPA Personal Training certification or equivalent required to take on Personal Training clients;
  • Customer service and public relations experience;
  • Current CPR ‘C’  and Emergency First Aid;
  • Provision of a Police or RCMP Criminal Record Check.

Location: Oak Bay Recreation Centre

Rate:  $18.36 per hour + $2.57 per hour in lieu of benefits

Hours: Thursdays, 9:45am – 1:45pm

Various subbing shifts may be available.  Hours may vary to meet operational needs.

INCLUSION - INSTRUCTORS

POSTING 2020-40

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM

Applications are now being accepted for Inclusion Instructors for Recreation Oak Bay summer camps.  Inclusion Instructors provide one-on-one care for participants in a camp setting. This position ensures the safety and well being of all participants. Under the direction of the Community Recreation Licensed Programmer and the Support and Inclusion Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and adapting daily schedule of activities suitable for a child/children who require additional support;
  • Liaise with children, parents, program staff and community partners in friendly manner;
  • Developing lesson plans, sensory projects, care plans and documenting the child’s progress;
  • Ability to work without direct supervision;
  • Adhere to all safety standards for protection of all participants;

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children;
  • Ability to work as an effective team member;
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C;
  • Experience working directly with children with behaviour difficultities, disabilities or additional support needs in a recreational environment;
  • Provision of current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check;

Rate:      $21.28 per hour + $2.98 per hour in lieu of benefits.

Hours:    Monday – Friday, hours vary between 2:30 – 5:30pm*

PROGRAM TEAM LEADER - LICENSED CARE

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM

This is a recreation position for a Program Team Leader with the Licensed Before and After School Care Programs, for children kindergarten to grade 5.  Under the direction of the Community Recreation Programmer, the Program Team Leader will plan, prepare and supervise a safe, fun, and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements daily schedule of activities and prepares monthly calendar and newsletter for parents;
  • Works co-operatively with fellow Team Leaders and the Community Recreation Programmer to ensure that program goals are met;
  • Ensures program areas are kept neat and tidy;
  • Supervises attendants on a daily basis;
  • Ensures attendants are prepared for each day’s events and that all supplies and materials are available;
  • Liaises with children, parents, and staff in a warm and friendly manner;
  • Ensures programs are compliant with Island Health Licensing regulations;
  • Completes necessary administrative work.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;
  • Current Class 4 Unrestricted BC Driver's Licence and Driver’s Abstract;
  • Must meet Island Health licensing requirements, including Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications, 20 hours of related training or education;
  • Minimum two years experience working with school aged children in a recreational setting;
  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;
  • Related supervisory experience.

Locations: Neighbourhood Learning Centre/Henderson Recreation Centre

Rate:      $21.28 per hour + $2.98 per hour in lieu of benefits

Hours:   Before School Care – Neighbourhood Learning Centre: Monday – Friday 7:15am – 9:45am*
