Community Recreation - Program Attendants

Kindergym and Family Gym

Henderson Recreation Centre

January 2, 2018 – June 22, 2018

Applications are invited for Program Attendants for a variety of drop-in and registered programs at Henderson Centre including Kindergym and Family Gym. Program Attendants will liaise with parents and children and lead circle time and group activities while ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for patrons.  A warm, friendly rapport with children, parents, and staff, plus the energy and enthusiasm to ensure varied and enjoyable programs are essential for these positions. Attendants will also be responsible with the set-up, take down, and cleaning of the equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate and facilitate pre-planned activities for a variety of age groups;

  • Liaise with children, parents and staff in a warm and friendly manner;

  • Assist with set up and clean up for parties and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule;

  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C;

  • Provision of current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Tuesday: 8:45 am – 11:15 am

  • Thursday: 9:00 am – 11:45 am

  • Wednesday: 10:00 am – 12 pm (noon)

  • Friday: 5:00pm – 7:15pm

Hours may vary to meet operational requirements

Rate:              

  • $12.81 per hour plus $1.79 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates).

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

This work is under the direction of the Lounge Supervisor in menu planning, organizing the kitchen, maintaining supplies, preparing and presenting nutritional and tasty meals, soups and sandwiches. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares daily menu items as ordered by patrons or Supervisor;

  • Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public;

  • Ensures cooking and service area are kept clean at all times;

  • Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor of any shortages, repairs, etc;

  • Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary;

  • Carves meats, portions food on plates to fill individual orders and buffets.

Qualifications:

  • Cooking experience in a similar environment;

  • Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent industry experience and training;

  • Food Safe Level 1;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:  

  • Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 7am–10pm up to a maximum of 25 hours per week.  

Rate:     

  • $15.07 per hour + $2.11 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)

 

​​Program Attendants - Licensed Care

After School Care Program

September 2017 - June 2018

We are seeking Program Attendants for our Licensed After School Care Program for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Current Class 4 Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including for Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications, 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Location:                    

  • Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Henderson Centre

Hours:                        

  • As required up to 10 hours per week.

  • Program hours are Monday to Friday: 2:30-5:30 pm.

  • Hours may vary according to school pick up times, school breaks, and enrolment.

Rate:                          

  • $15.33 per hour plus $2.15 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)

 

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Henderson After School Care Program

Applications are being accepted for an auxiliary position at the Licensed After School Care Program to provide support to a child/children attending the program.

The successful candidate will have the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to provide integrated support and work one-on-one with the child, parents and staff in a friendly and effective manner. Duties include: guiding the child and assisting in the program, which may include assisting in completing necessary written documentation of the child’s progress.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Must meet Vancouver Island Health Authority licensing requirements for Criminal Record check, doctor’s note, current Emergency First Aid and CPR C, and 20 hours related training or education;

  • Experience working with children 5-12 years of age;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours: 

  • Monday to Friday: 2:30 pm – 5:15 pm (13.75 hrs per week)

Rate:  

  • $15.33 per hour plus $2.15 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)

Please Note: This is a temporary position only for the duration of the child attending the program and the partnership with Queen Alexandra Foundation.

 

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Paddington Station

Applications are invited for an on-call auxiliary position at our Paddington Station Day Care.

The successful candidate will have the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to work with the children, parents and staff  in a friendly and effective manner. Duties include set up and clean up, guiding children and assisting in the program, which may include circle and art time as needed.

Requirements:

  • Possess a license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator, or an Early Childhood Educator Assistant in British Columbia;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Must meet Vancouver Island Health Authority licensing requirements for Criminal Record check, Doctor’s note and current  First Aid and CPR;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:    

  • This is an on-call position to cover for vacation and sick relief..

  • Paddington Station hours  are Monday & Friday: 7:30am-5:30pm.

Rate:

  • $15.33 per hour + $2.15 per hour in lieu of benefits.​
