Monterey Recreation Centre

Monterey Recreation Centre offers a variety of in and out-of-town day trips for adults 50+ years. Trips are programmed to include a variety of art, culture, sport, recreation, and culinary experiences. We are looking for friendly, dynamic, customer focused staff to join our team as a Day Trip Coach Driver.

Responsibilities:

  • Escorting and implementing day trips and outings as planned by the Volunteer Programmer;

  • Work as a team with the day trip attendant to ensure a safe experience for the day trip participants;

  • Follow trip safety guidelines and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Class 4 BC Drivers License;

  • Previous experience working with adults 50 years and older;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule;

  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certification;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Vary depending on the trip (i.e. 10:30am-3:00pm)

  • Weekday, evening, and weekend shifts

Hours may vary to meet operational requirements.

Rate:

  • $15.33 per hour plus $2.15 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)

 

Golf Instructor

Henderson Recreation Centre

  • The Instructor will be responsible for lesson planning, organizing and instructing golf lessons. This position will instruct lessons for adults, teens and children. The Instructor should have a well rounded background and will be responsible for teaching materials under the guidance of the Community Recreation Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • A strong background in golf;

  • Experience teaching a variety of ages;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Ability to interact with patrons in a warm, friendly manner;

  • Be able to create a fun learning environment;

  • NCCP Level-1 or equivalent golf coaching certification;

  • Current CPR-C and Emergency First Aid;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Daytime, evening and weekend hours available to a maximum of 25 hours per week

  • Subject to registration April to October 2018

Rate:

  • $18.83 – $19.75 + $2.64 - $2.77 per hour in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)

 

Lounge Host I

Monterey Recreation Centre

The Lounge Host, Monterey Centre, reports to the Head Cook and is primarily responsible for dishwashing, keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, serving at special events, and assisting in the operation of the kitchen.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the chef to ensure the successful operation of various functions;

  • Assist in preparing banquet facilities for various types of events;

  • Serving, clearing tables, removing and washing dishes;

  • Assist patrons in a warm and friendly manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards and regulations for the benefit of patrons.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or similar food service facility preferred;

  • Ability to work independently and responsibly without direct supervision;

  • Food Safe Level 1;

  • Provision of a current police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours of Work:

  • Occasional day, evening and weekend shifts, as required for special events.

Rate of Pay:

  • $12.81 per hour plus $1.79 per hour in lieu of benefits. (2016 rates)

 

Instructors - Ice Skating

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

July 7, 2018 – August 25, 2018

We invite warm, energetic and committed individuals to apply for Ice Skating Instructor positions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Instructing children and adults of all ages and abilities to skate;

  • Working cohesively with other instructors in group settings;

  • Creating and following lesson plans and program schedules;

  • Establishing a friendly, safe atmosphere for all visitors to the Recreation Centre.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with figure skating, ice skating, or hockey;

  • Experience teaching skating to children and adults;

  • Strong, confident skating and/or hockey skills;

  • Current CPR-C and Emergency First Aid certification;

  • Provision of a current police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 4:15pm - 5:15pm (July 16-27 & Aug 13-24)

Maintenance Person(s)

Oak Bay Recreation Centre & Neighbourhood Learning Centre

We invite applications from qualified candidates for maintenance auxiliary hours involving janitorial, custodial and preventative building and equipment maintenance work performed in an Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture Department Facility.  The auxiliary Facility Maintenance Person, under the direction of the facility’s supervisor, will carry out maintenance functions including pool heating and filtration system maintenance without close supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the assigned area during a shift;

  • Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping as required;

  • Cleaning washrooms and change room areas;

  • Set up rooms as per schedule;

  • Performs routine minor maintenance of equipment, pool chemistry, data readings, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Sound working knowledge and experience with building maintenance and cleaning routines;

  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment;

  • Proven initiative and ability to work without close supervision;

  • Current CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:  

  • Day, afternoon and night shifts, based on operational requirements, up to 20 hours per week.

Rate:  

  • $19.56 - $19.85 per hour + $2.73 - $2.78 per hour in lieu of benefits

  • $26.84 per hour + $3.76 per hour in lieu of benefits (with Refrigeration Operator and Pool Operator 1 & 2 certification)

Tennis Summer Camp Team Leaders

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

May 28, 2018 – August 27, 2018

Recreation Oak Bay is looking for two dedicated and energetic individuals with supervisory ability to take on the role of Team Leader. Working under the direction of the Tennis Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and smooth operation of tennis camp and lessons, and providing interesting programs and activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as liaison between tennis staff and Tennis Supervisor;

  • Ensures that staff and sessions begin and end on schedule;

  • Ensures the upkeep of the facility;

  • Prepares special projects and maintains budgets and supply levels, as requested;

  • Assists in maintaining a quality tennis environment for all patrons;

  • Assists in the training, evaluation and motivation of the tennis staff;

  • Prepares and maintains records, as required;

  • Provides the necessary guidelines to ensure the safety of all participants.

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching all levels of tennis lessons;

  • Ability to address feedback from patrons and program participants;

  • Tennis Canada Instructor Level 1;

  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Position #1 9 am - noon

  • Position #2 8 am - 4 pm

Rate:

  • $20.06 per hour + $2.81 per hour in lieu of benefits.
