Community Recreation - Program Attendants

Kindergym

Henderson Recreation Centre

Applications are invited for Program Attendants for Kindergym programs at Henderson Centre. Program Attendants liaise with parents and children and lead circle time and group activities while ensuring a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for patrons. A warm, friendly rapport with children, parents, and staff, plus the energy and enthusiasm to ensure varied and enjoyable programs are essential for these positions. Attendants will also be responsible for the set-up, take down, and cleaning of the equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate and facilitate pre-planned activities for a variety of age groups;

  • Assist with program set up and clean up.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children;

Hours:

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a point of contact for food and beverage sales;

  • Maintains the cleanliness and tidiness of the public area at all times, clearing tables, removing and washing dishes, wiping tabletops and other surfaces and restocking food and beverage display areas as needed;

  • Assists customers in a warm and friendly manner, answering questions about menu choices;

  • Handles money and payments for services in an efficient and business-like manner;

  • Operates a POS station and all other equipment associated with food facilities;

  • Adheres to all safety standards and regulations for the benefit of patrons.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or similar food service facility;

Lounge Host II

The Lounge Host II reports to the Lounge Supervisor and is responsible for the enforcement of age restrictions and the maintenance and controls of an orderly facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a point of contact for food and beverage sales;

  • Maintains the cleanliness and tidiness of the public area at all times, clearing tables, removing and washing dishes, wiping tabletops and other surfaces and restocking food and beverage display areas as needed;

  • Assists customers in a warm and friendly manner, answering questions about menu choices;

  • Handles money and payments for services in an efficient and business-like manner;

  • Operates a POS station and all other equipment associated with food facilities;

  • Adheres to all safety standards and regulations for the benefit of patrons;

  • Maintains records pertaining to bar stock.

Qualifications:

  • Previous bartending experience;

  • Previous experience in a restaurant or similar food service facility;

  • POS experience;

  • Serving It Right certification;

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 7am–10pm up to a maximum of 25 hours per week.

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Paddington Station

Applications are invited for an auxiliary position at our Paddington Station Day Care.

The successful candidate will have the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to work with the children, parents and staff

in a friendly and effective manner. Duties include set up and clean up, guiding children and assisting in the program, which may include circle and art time as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator, or an Early Childhood Educator Assistant in British Columbia;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Must meet Vancouver Island Health Authority licensing requirements for Criminal Record check, current First Aid and CPR C;

Hours:

  • additional shifts for vacation and sick coverage as needed

The hours of operation at Paddington Station are Monday to Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm

Program Attendants - Licensed Care

After School Care Program

November 2019 – June 2020

We are seeking Program Attendants for our Licensed After School Care Program for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Location: 

  • Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Henderson Centre 

Hours:

  • As required up to 15 hours per week. 

  • Program hours are Monday to Friday: 2:30-5:30 pm.

Program Team Leader - Licensed Care

Before School Care Program

January - June 2020

This is a recreation position for a Program Team Leader with the Licensed After School Care Program, for children kindergarten to grade 5.  Under the direction of the Community Recreation Programmer, the Program Team Leader will plan, prepare and supervise a safe, fun, and stimulating program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements daily schedule of activities and prepares monthly calendar and newsletter for parents;

  • Works co-operatively with fellow Team Leaders and the Community Recreation Programmer to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas are kept neat and tidy;

  • Supervises attendants on a daily basis;

  • Ensures attendants are prepared for each day’s events and that all supplies and materials are available;

  • Liaises with children, parents, and staff  in a warm and friendly manner;

  • Ensures programs are compliant with VIHA Licensing regulations;

  • Completes necessary administrative work.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Current Class 4 Unrestricted BC Driver's Licence and Driver’s Abstract; 

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications, 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Minimum two years experience working with school aged children in a recreational setting;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;

  • Related supervisory experience.

Hours and Location:

  • Before School Care – Neighbourhood Learning Centre: Monday – Friday, 7:15 – 10:15am*

*as required up to 25 hours per week

Rate:  

  • $20.86 per hour + $2.92 per hour in lieu of benefits

 

Tennis Instructor/Attendant

Recreation Oak Bay has immediate openings for enthusiastic Tennis Instructors and Attendants for various lessons at both adult and junior levels. Working under the Tennis

Program Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants.

Requirements:

  • Tennis Canada, minimum Instructor level certification;

  • Previous teaching experience required;

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Must be comfortable teaching both adults and juniors;

  • Emergency First Aid and current CPR-C certification;

  • Provision of a current police or RCMP Criminal Record check

  • Professional Membership with the TPA (Tennis Professional Association)

Hours:

  • Various hours as required up to 25 hours per week, working with adults as well as juniors ages 5-11 years.

Rate:

  • Instructor: $19.88 to $20.86 per hour + $2.78 to $2.92 per hour in lieu of benefits

  • Attendant: $13.85 per hour + $1.94 in lieu of benefits
