Cash Clerk

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

(May-December, 2019)

The Cash Clerk assists the full-time Accounts Clerks, and reports to the Manager, Administrative Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Duties include collecting cash and internal mail from various locations; reconcile cash with point of sale / cash register totals; compile, reconcile and make bank deposits; prepare cash related reports; performs other duties similar in scope and complexity as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish and maintain a cordial working relationship with other staff;

  • Must be tactful, possess initiative and good judgement and be knowledgeable about the detail and purpose of the accounting office;

  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy and balance related records.

  • One year general office experience;

  • Secondary school graduation;

  • Skill in operating adding machines and calculators.

  • Must have valid Class 5 BC drivers’ license;

  • Provision of a Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours: 

  • Tuesdays, Thursdays & alternating Fridays including statutory holidays. Shifts are scheduled up to 17.5 hours per week; 8:30am to 2:30pm, or as required to complete duties. 

Hours may vary to meet operational needs. 

Rate:              

  • $17.02 per hour, plus $2.38 per hour in lieu of benefits

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

This work is under the direction of the Lounge Supervisor in menu planning, organizing the kitchen, maintaining supplies, preparing and presenting nutritional and tasty meals, soups and sandwiches.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares daily menu items as ordered by patrons or Supervisor;

  • Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public;

  • Ensures cooking and service area are kept clean at all times;

  • Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor of any shortages, repairs, etc;

  • Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary;

  • Carves meats, portions food on plates to fill individual orders and buffets.

Qualifications:

  • Cooking experience in a similar environment;

  • Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent industry experience and training;

  • Food Safe Level 1;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 7am–10pm up to a maximum of 25 hours per week.

Maintenance Person(s)

We invite applications from qualified candidates for maintenance auxiliary hours involving janitorial, custodial and preventative building and equipment maintenance work performed in an Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture Department Facility.  The auxiliary Facility Maintenance Person, under the direction of the facility’s supervisor, will carry out maintenance functions including pool heating and filtration system maintenance without close supervision.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the assigned area during a shift;

  • Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping as required;

  • Cleaning washrooms and change room areas;

  • Set up rooms as per schedule;

  • Performs routine minor maintenance of equipment, pool chemistry, data readings, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Sound working knowledge and experience with building maintenance and cleaning routines;

  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment;

  • Proven initiative and ability to work without close supervision;

  • Current CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

  • Day, afternoon and night shifts, based on operational requirements, up to 20 hours per week.

Rate:

  • $20.66 - $20.96 per hour + $2.89 - $2.93 per hour in lieu of benefits 

  • $28.34 per hour + $3.97 per hour in lieu of benefits (with Refrigeration Operator and Pool Operator 1 & 2 certification)

 

Program Attendants - Golf

Henderson Recreation Centre

This is recreation work related to the operation of the Henderson Park Par 3 Golf Course. This position monitors that participants have paid, and are following golf course rules and etiquette to ensure the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants and members of the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that golf course rules and etiquette are followed;

  • Ensure that the golf course and equipment are being properly maintained;

  • Ensure the safety of the participants at all times;

  • Check court tags and ensure appropriate play on outdoor tennis courts.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the game of golf required;

  • Ability to work effectively with members of the public and staff in a diplomatic and tactful manner;

  • Ability to work without direct supervision in an independent and responsible manner;

  • Current Emergency First Aid, and CPR-C;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.                        

Hours:

  • Variable shifts. Approximately 2-5 hours per day, to a maximum of 25 hours per week

Program Attendant/Driver - Licensed Care

After School Care Program

January - June 2019

We are seeking Program Attendants with Class 4 B.C. Drivers Licenses for our Licensed After School Care Program for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children;

  • Responsible for driving the bus on out trips.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;

  • Current unrestricted Class 4 B.C. Drivers License.

Hours:            

  • As required up to 15 hours per week.

  • Program hours are Monday to Friday: 2:30-5:30 pm.

  • Hours may vary according to school pick up times, school breaks, and enrollment.

Rate:               

  • Attendant rate: $16.19 per hour plus $2.27 per hour in lieu of benefits

  • Driving rate: $18.00 per hour plus $2.52 per hour in lieu of benefits (this rate only paid while driving the bus)

Program Attendant - Licensed Care

Applications are invited for an auxiliary position at Paddington Station Day Care as a Daycare Attendant.  The successful candidate will have the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, combined with the ability to work with children 3-5 years old, parents and staff  in a friendly and effective manner. Duties include set up and clean up, guiding children and assisting in the program, which may include circle and art time as needed.

Requirements:

  • Possess a license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator, or an Early Childhood Educator Assistant in British Columbia;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Must meet Vancouver Island Health Authority licensing requirements for Criminal Record check, and current  First Aid and CPR;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.                                      

Hours:       

  • Subbing position, hours vary; Monday – Friday (7:30am – 5:30pm)

Rate of pay:

Program Attendants - Softball

March 18 to June 23, 2019

The Softball Attendant is responsible for supervising Recreation Oak Bay Adult Softball league games. Assisting in set up and take down of field bases, cones and equipment. Communicating with softball Captains and Teams, providing first aid, completing nightly softball score reports and liaising with the Sports Programmer.

Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of Softball game and rules;

  • Strong customer service skills and enjoy working with the public;

  • Current CPR C and Emergency First Aid certification;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Season Hours:

  • Shifts are available Monday to Friday between 6:30pm – 8:30pm
