Maintenance Custodian

Henderson Recreation Centre

We invite applications from qualified candidates for maintenance auxiliary hours involving the operation and maintenance of the Henderson Recreation Centre. Primary responsibilities are to ensure the cleanliness and smooth functioning of the Centre, while maintaining a safe environment.


  • Responsible for the set up and take down of equipment for a variety of programs and assists program staff to ensure a safe and positive experience for the facility users;
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the facility during a shift;
  • Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping as required;
  • Cleans washrooms and change room areas;
  • Performs routine minor maintenance of equipment, as needed;
  • Performs building and equipment maintenance and cleaning tasks and other related work as required.


  • Sound working knowledge and experience with building maintenance and cleaning routines;
  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment;
  • Proven initiative and ability to work without close supervision;
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR ‘C’;
  • Provision of a current Criminal Record Check.


  • $21.07 per hour plus $2.94 per hour in lieu of benefits.


  • Saturdays and Sundays, varying shifts and hours.
  • Additional hours may be available as need arises.

POSTING 2020-30

Oak Bay, Henderson and Monterey Recreation Centres

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a flexible schedule to join our Reception team as auxiliary Receptionists. These positions involve answering inquiries regarding recreation programs, both on the phone and over the counter, registering patrons, operating a point of sale system for public admissions as well as performing a number of clerical duties.


  • Extensive experience dealing with the public;
  • Two years of office/ reception experience in a similar environment;
  • Keyboarding skills (45wpm);
  • Working experience with MS Office 2007;
  • Multi-line telephone experience;
  • Cash handling experience;
  • Ability to deal with emergency procedures as required; including providing on-deck assistance to lifeguard staff during a pool emergency;
  • Ability to work under pressure and without close supervision;
  • Current CPR-C, and Occupational First Aid Level I certificates;
  • Graduation from senior secondary school;
  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

These positions involve constant public contact therefore the successful applicants must have  a warm friendly attitude, combined with good communication skills.

Rate:      $20.28 per hour plus $2.84 per hour in lieu of benefits.

Hours:   Shifts scheduled between 5:45am – 12:30am – 7 days a week

Up to a maximum of 17.5 hours per week; additional shifts may be available as need arises.

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

The Instructor will be responsible for lesson planning, organizing, and instructing introductory to intermediate pickleball lessons for adults 16+ years old.  The Instructor should have a well-rounded background in pickleball and will be responsible for teaching materials under the guidance of the Tennis Program Supervisor.


  • A strong background in pickleball;
  • Experience instructing adults 16+;
  • Presents a well-planned and organized instructional program;
  • Ability to interact with patrons in a warm and friendly manner; 
  • Creates a safe and fun learning environment for all participants;
  • Provides accurate and enthusiastic feedback to all participants;
  • Current CPR-C and Emergency First Aid;
  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Rate:  Instructor: $19.88-$20.88 per hour plus $2.78-$2.92 per hour in lieu of benefits

            Attendant: $14.60 per hour + $2.04 in lieu of benefits

Hours: Varied and subject to registration.
