PROGRAM ATTENDANT/DRIVER - LICENSED CARE

POSTING 2020-34A

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM

We are seeking Program Attendants with Class 4 B.C. Drivers Licenses for our Licensed Before and After School Care Programs for children kindergarten to grade 5. Under the direction of the Program Team Leader, Attendants will assist in the planning and implementation of a creative and stimulating program.

Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with co-workers to ensure that program goals are met;

  • Ensures program areas and supplies are kept neat and tidy;

  • Helps to plan and implement daily activities;

  • Follows policies and procedures for licensed care programs;

  • Liaises with children and parents;

  • Responsible for leading children in planned activities which may include sports, games, crafts, swimming and field trips for school aged children;

  • Responsible for driving the bus on out trips.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age;

  • Must meet VIHA licensing requirements, including a Solicitor General criminal record check, current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications and 20 hours of related training or education;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check;

  • Current unrestricted Class 4 B.C. Drivers License.

TENNIS INSTRUCTOR/ATTENDANT

Recreation Oak Bay has immediate openings for enthusiastic Tennis Instructors and Attendants for various lessons at both adult and junior levels. Working under the Tennis Program Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants.

Requirements:

  • Tennis Canada, minimum Instructor level certification;

  • Previous teaching experience required;

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Must be comfortable teaching both adults and juniors;

  • Emergency First Aid and current CPR-C certification;

  • Professional Membership with the TPA (Tennis Professional Association)

Monterey Recreation Centre

This work is under the direction of the Head Cook in menu planning, organizing the kitchen, maintaining supplies, preparing and presenting nutritional and tasty meals, soups, sandwiches and baked goods.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares daily menu items as planned by Head Cook;

  • Prepares and presents food in a pleasing manner;

  • Adheres to all safety standards for the protection of public;

  • Ensures cooking and service area are kept clean at all times;

  • Maintains the necessary kitchen supplies and equipment and notifies Head Cook of any shortages, repairs, etc;

  • Cleans bus trays, dish trays, pots and pans, and washes dishes as necessary to maintain continuity of service in food areas as necessary;

  • Cooks and carves meat for rentals and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Cooking experience in a similar environment;

  • Successful completion of a recognized provincial food services program, or equivalent;-industry experience and training;

First Aid Instructor

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

Recreation Oak Bay is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual interested in an auxiliary position as a First Aid Instructor in our Aquatics Department. This is skilled recreation work in the provision of first aid instruction at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre or Windsor Pavilion. The First Aid Instructor works under the direction of the Aquatics Programmer and is responsible for establishing a warm, friendly, and safe atmosphere while teaching CPR C, CPR C re-certification, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, and Standard First Aid recertification courses.

Qualifications

  • Current Red Cross or Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor certification;

  • Experience and skills in lesson planning and teaching;

  • Experience teaching CPR C, Emergency First Aid, and Standard First Aid;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

Night Shift - Oak Bay Recreation Centre

We invite applications from qualified candidates for maintenance auxiliary hours involving janitorial, custodial and preventative building and equipment maintenance work performed in an Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture Department Facility. The auxiliary Facility Maintenance Person, under the direction of the facility’s supervisor, will carry out maintenance functions including pool heating and filtration system maintenance without close supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the assigned area during a shift;

  • Vacuuming, mopping and sweeping as required;

  • Cleaning washrooms and change room areas;

  • Set up rooms as per schedule;

  • Performs routine minor maintenance of equipment, pool chemistry, data readings, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Sound working knowledge and experience with building maintenance and cleaning routines;

  • Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment;

  • Proven initiative and ability to work without close supervision;

1 Position: #3 (see below): Assisting the Greenskeeper with the upkeep of the Par 3 Henderson Golf Course, jogging circuit, wooded and parks areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and cares for the grounds and playing surfaces throughout the municipality;

  • Upkeep and irrigation of parks and boulevards;

  • Performs routine tasks such as weeding, watering, cultivating, trimming and cutting of grass;

  • Cleans debris and litter from assigned areas;

  • Operation of various types of equipment related to the various tasks assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience or training in parks, irrigation, and ground maintenance;

Inclusion - Instructors, Summer Camps

Applications are now being accepted for Inclusion Instructors for Recreation Oak Bay summer camps. Inclusion Instructors provide one-on-one care for participants in a camp setting. This position ensures the safety and well being of all participants. Under the direction of the Community Recreation Licensed Care Programmer and the Support and Inclusion Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and adapting daily schedule of activities suitable for a child/children who require additional support;

  • Liaise with children, parents/guardians, program staff, and community partners in friendly manner;

  • Developing lesson plans, sensory projects, care plans and documenting the child’s progress;

  • Ability to work without direct supervision;

  • Adhere to all safety standards for protection of all participants;

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children;

  • Ability to work as an effective team member;

  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C;

  • Experience working directly with children with behaviour difficultities, disabilities and/or additional support needs in a recreational environment;

  • Provision of current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check;

Hours:

Monday – Friday, hours vary between 7:30am-5:30pm.

Program Team Leader - Support & Inclusion

The Program Team Leader will be responsible for programs and activities conducted by staff and volunteers. This position supports people with disabilities who are participating in programs, drop-in activities and camps. Under the direction of the Licensed Care Programmer and the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Program Team Leader – Support and Inclusion will plan, prepare and supervise support services which facilitate participation in existing Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture’s services and programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Works co-operatively with fellow Team Leaders, Programmers, and Coordinators to ensure that the inclusion and support services provided meet program goals;

  • Supervises instructors and volunteers on a daily basis;

  • Ensures instructors and volunteers are prepared for each day’s events and that all supplies and materials are available;

  • Liaises with participants and staff in a warm and friendly manner;

  • Completes necessary administrative work.

Qualifications:

  • Current Class 4 Unrestricted BC Driver's Licence and Driver’s Abstract;

  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR-C certifications

  • Must have a vehicle (mileage is reimbursed at current municipal rates).

  • Minimum two years experience working in a recreational setting and/or working with persons with disabilities;

  • Program planning and supervisory experience;

  • Ability to work without direct supervision;

  • Provision of a current Police or RCMP Criminal Record check.

Hours:

June: Mon – Fri, various shifts between 8:00am – 7:00pm up to a maximum of 15 hours per week.*
Jul – Sept: Mon – Fri, various shifts between 7:30am – 5:30pm up to a maximum of 35 hours per week.*
