Recreation Oak Bay is committed to providing community programs, services and facilities that reflect our on-going pursuit of providing meaningful and inclusive opportunities for everyone.

Programs and services aim to eliminate barriers and create social, physical and economic environments that enable all residents to participate actively in the community.

An alternative pass option for those outside of the Greater Victoria region:

For those living outside of the Greater Victoria region, an alternative to the Leisure Assistant Pass is the Access 2 Card. The national wide Access 2 Card program helps to ensure that entertainment, cultural and recreational opportunities are more available and accessible to all. Leisure Assistant Pass (LAP Pass)

District of Oak Bay residents may now apply for a Leisure Assistant Pass (LAP)directly from Recreation Oak Bay. Upon presentation of the Leisure Assistant Pass at a participating venue, one person will be given free or reduced admission providing assistance to facilitate participation in recreation and leisure activities. The LAP ensures that supported participation does not cost ore than general admission fees. For more information, please contact Reception at 250-595-7946.

Leisure Assistant Request

For those in need of an on-siteLeisure Assistant, Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture is now accepting requests for Leisure Assistant pairings. Once a request has been recieved, staff will work toward finding a volunteer to meet your specific needs. Requests for onsite Leisure Assistants can be made through the Inclusion Team Leader at inclusion@oakbay.ca or call 250-886-8248.

Volunteer Opportunities

Leisure Assistant Volunteers are needed to provide one-to-one support for a person in the Leisure Assistant Program. As a volunteer, you will be matched with a person based on your shared interests, experience, availability and preferred facility. If you are interested in volunteering as a Leisure Assistant, please contact the Inclusion Team Leader at inclusion@oakbay.ca or call 250-886-8248.

Support and Inclusion for Children in Registered Programs

Supported Child Development

Through Island Health, the Supported Child Development Program offers services to those families whose children may require additional support in order to be fully included in their childcare setting. Working with families, the Supported Child Development Program provides consultation, extra staffing supports and staff training to childcare providers. Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture partners with the Supported Child Development and provides in-house Inclusion Instructors to support children who are eligible for funding and are registered in programs as Preschool, Daycare, Before/After School Care, and Camps.

Lifetime Networks (Summer Camp Only)

Lifetime Networks is a continuation of Recreation integration Victoria’s (RIV) Summer Inclusion Services. This program run’s July and August only.
Funding for a one-to-one Inclusion Facilitator for children/youth with a diversability is provided, at no cost to the family, for the camp of their choice.

Oak Bay Recreation Centre

The centre has the following building equipment and amenities:

  • Elevator to second floor.

  • Portable ramp for ice access in the Arena.

  • Aquastep ADA Version 7 Tread (Riser Height 7”)

  • Accessible change rooms with change bed and lift.

  • Aquatic lifts with access to all three pools.

  • 2 pool wheelchairs.

  • Adaptable strength-training equipment in Weightroom.

  • 1 Apex Vertical Chest – Wheelchair

  • Apex Wheelchair Accessible Vertical Chest Press Machine

  • Cybex Wheelchair Accessible Shoulder Press Machine

Henderson Recreation Centre

The centre has the following building equipment and amenities:

  • Power-operated entrance doors and Weightroom doors.
  • Adapted strength-training equipment.
  • Accessible washrooms.
Monterey Recreation Centre

The centre has the following building equipment and amenities:

  • Power-operated entrances.
  • External elevator from parking lot.
  • Accessible activity rooms and washrooms.
Windsor Pavilion

The centre has the following building equipment and amenities:

  • Elevator to second floor.

Neighbourhood Learning Centre
