Recreation Integration Victoria and the Provision of Services with Recreation Oak Bay

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

As you may be aware, Recreation Integration Victoria (RIV) has disseminated a letter to the public regarding the cancellation of a contract that existed between RIV and the region’s Parks and Recreation Departments. This multi-partner mutual  contract had expired in June of 2018. Changes in the services provided under that contract did not meet the growing diversity of needs and demands of residents of Oak Bay. Similarly, other municipalities expressed their desire to discontinue the contract which in turn meant the multi-partner agreement was no longer applicable.

Please be assured that Recreation Oak Bay is committed to the provision of inclusive and accessible options for all and will continue to work either with other organizational partners and/or through our own in house resources to support access to parks and recreation. Furthermore, Recreation Oak Bay is continuing discussions with Recreation Integration Victoria to explore the continuation of programs and services for the community.  As such, Recreation Oak Bay is maintaining support for the provision of services and access opportunities that are currently in existence meaning that all passes and support volunteers such as the Leisure Assistant’s Pass will be accepted as they have been in the past.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work towards effective and efficient service provision to meet the range of needs in the community. If you have any concerns regarding access to programs, facilities and services of Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture, please contact the Manager of Recreation and Culture directly to discuss your concerns and to make arrangements to ensure your participation continues as it has.
