Painted Pianos

Oak Bay Parks, Recreation, and Culture hosts the return of the popular Arts Alive pianos painted by local artists for the public to play during the summer in select locations around Oak Bay. Pianos are available to be played by anyone from 9:00am to 8:00pm. The pianos will be in the community from July until early September.

Artists Chris Paul, Robert Amos, and Jennifer McIntyre have painted the pop-up pianos that are installed at Cattle Point, Turkey Head, Willows Beach, Loon Bay Park and Estevan Village.

Added in 2022 - Circles of Joy - created by intergenerational residents of Oak Bay, coordinated by artist Jennifer McIntyre.

Added in 2024 - Summerscape - by emerging artists Cameron Neufeld & Asha Shakya.

Free pop-up piano performances are scheduled in the summer months. For event details visit the Event Calendar.

The art pianos are part of Arts Alive, temporary public art program supported by Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture. Arts Alive was spearheaded between 2014-2020 by the former Oak Bay Arts Laureate Barbara Adams, whose vision and leadership has contributed to making Oak Bay a destination for arts and culture.

Oak Bay Arts & Culture is not accepting piano donations at this time. To be added to the 2027 waitlist please contact apass@oakbay.ca.
