Henderson Recreation Centre Fitness Centre

Conveniently located directly across from the reception area, the Henderson Recreation Centre Fitness Centre boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that feature incredible views of the gardens and golf course.

Enjoy an extensive selection of strength training machines, cable systems, dumbbells, barbells, cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, NuStep trainer, SciFit Upper Body Exerciser, Concept 2 Rowers, Keiser Spin Bikes, and a variety of stability balls, BOSUs, medicine balls, balance boards, bands, tubing, and TRX systems.

The Henderson Fitness Centre is closed Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. for registered Circuit classes.

Oak Bay Recreation Centre Fitness Centre

The Oak Bay Recreation Centre Fitness Centre is located on the second floor of the facility and boasts a panoramic view of Bee Street through its large floor-to-ceiling windows. The Fitness Centre can be accessed via the stairs located next to reception area or using the adjacent elevator.

Enjoy an extensive selection of strength training machines, cable systems, dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers, Adaptive Motion Trainers (AMTs), upright and recumbent bikes, NuStep trainer, TechnoGym Upper Body Exerciser, Concept 2 Ski Erg, Concept 2 Rowers, Keiser Spin Bikes, Step Climber, Step Machine, a Fitness Activity Room featuring hardwood flooring and full-length mirrors, and a variety of stability balls, BOSUs, medicine balls, balance boards, bands, tubing, and TRX systems.

Fitness Centre Rules & Etiquette

Fitness Centre Rules
  • Patrons 16 yrs and older are welcome anytime during drop-in hours.
  • Patrons 13-15 yrs old who have completed the Regional Youth Orientation may access the Fitness Centre when:
    • Accompanied by an adult chaperone (19+) OR 
    • A Fitness Centre Attendant is present.
  • Athletic footwear is required; NO bare feet, socks, open-toe or open-back shoes, sandals, or work boots.
  • Exercise attire is required and must cover chest and buttocks.
  • Photo or video capture of others without consent is not permitted.
  • External Training/Coaching is not permitted.
  • Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated: including (but not limited to) verbal/physical abuse, harassment, violence, and property damage.
  • Patrons under the influence or intoxicants are not permitted.
  • Proper equipment use required.
  • Use of perfumes and scented products is not permitted.
  • Lock up any valuable in designated lockers.

Fitness Centre Etiquette
  • Be respectful to all staff and patrons.
  • Allow others to work in.
  • Return equipment after use.
  • Limit phone use on strength equipment. Take calls in the lobby.
  • Ask staff for help with equipment.
  • Report all injuries and incidents to staff.

Fitness Centre Age Requirements

The minimum age to drop-in at Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture (OBPRC) Fitness Centres is 16 years.

Those aged 13-15 years may register for a Regional Youth Fitness Orientation. Upon successful completion of a regional orientation, participants will receive a Youth Fitness Exemption card that will allow them to access OBPRC Fitness Centres during staff-attended times or when accompanied by an adult 19 years or older. The Youth Fitness Exemption card must be presented at the time of entry, and recreation staff reserve the right to deny entry if no card is presented.

Personal Training

Personal Training is an excellent way to improve your overall fitness, stay motivated, revamp your existing workout program, and achieve your fitness goals. A Certified Personal Trainer will work closely with you to design a specialized fitness program specific to your needs and goals.
