Thurs. Sept. 17, 9:30 a.m. – This morning there was a release of ammonia from the equipment. The backup systems (stacks) have captured and contained the ammonia. The ammonia has not leaked into the building, environment or surrounding area.
Out of an abundance of caution, patrons and staff were evacuated from Oak Bay Recreation Centre and the Centre will remain closed until further notice.
There is no safety risk to the public at this time.
