2026 General Local Election

NOTICE OF NOMINATION

Nominations for the offices of one (1) Mayor and six (6) Councillors will be received by the Chief Election Officer from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, as follows:

  • By hand, mail or other delivery service: District of Oak Bay Municipal Hall, 2167 Oak Bay Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 1G2
  • By email to: elections@oakbay.ca 
  • By fax to: 250-598-9108

Nomination forms are now available at www.oakbay.ca/elections or at Municipal Hall until the close of the nomination period (4:00 p.m. on September 11, 2026).

Qualifications for Office

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026);
  • resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Campaign Period Expense Limits & Third Party Advertising Limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following expense limits for candidates and third party advertising during the campaign period apply:

  • Office of Mayor: $20,943.40
  • Office of Councillor: $10,494.04
  • Third Party Advertising: $1,047.17 

Cumulative third party advertising limit is $184,856.70
