2026 General Local Election
Advanced Elector Registration
Are you eligible to vote on Saturday October 17, 2026 at the General Local Election for Mayor and Councillors for the District of Oak Bay and School Trustee for the Greater Victoria School District No. 61? Is your name on the Provincial List of Electors?
Advanced Elector Registration closes at 4:00 PM on Tuesday August 25, 2026, but will be accepted on advance voting days (October 7 and 14) and on general voting day (October 17).
If you are not sure if you are on the Provincial Voters List, you can find out by calling Elections BC Voter Services at 1.800.661.8683. If you want to register to vote or update voter information you can by using the Elections BC online voter registration system at www.elections.bc.ca
Elector Qualifications
Resident Electors
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election; and
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
- a resident of the District of Oak Bay; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-Resident Property Electors
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election;
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
- a registered owner of real property in the District of Oak Bay for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
- the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
- not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
- if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.
- a person may only register as a non-resident property elector in relation to one parcel of real property in a jurisdiction.

List of Registered Electors
Beginning September 1, 2026 until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the District of Oak Bay office located at 2167 Oak Bay Avenue, during regular office hours, 8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, make copies, or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
Request to Omit or Obscure
An elector may request that their address or other information about the elector be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or a Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
Objection to Registration of an Elector
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act before 4:00 P.M. on September 11, 2026. An objection must be in writing, signed and include a statement of facts to support the objection. An objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the District of Oak Bay and only on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of the District of Oak Bay.
