1668 Hampshire Road

Woodlands is a two-storey Tudor Revival style house beside Bowker Creek located in a cul de sac in North Oak Bay.

Heritage Value:

Woodlands is a residential landmark on Bowker Creek. Although much of the original three acre estate has been subdivided, its remaining grounds and close proximity to Bowker Creek contribute to the historic landscape of the Bowker Creek Walkway. Its orientation towards the Creek retains part of the original atmosphere for this 1931 home built for the Nairn family. The half-timbering and front gable adds interest to the side of the lot closest to the Park. The original driveway and gates are now the entrance to the strata development off Hampshire road.

Character Defining Elements:
  • Close proximity and orientation towards Bowker Creek.
  • View between the house and the Bowker Creek Walkway.
  • Tudor Revival style elements typified by the asymmetrical façade, half-timbering, rough cast stucco finish, tall and narrow leaded windows, square bay over the front porch and steep gabled roof.
  • Mature trees on the property.
