This month’s Friends of Uplands Park bird walk is taking place Saturday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the main parking lot of Cattle Point. They will focus on the identification of the year-round and summer residents as well as southbound migrants. Fall migration is already picking up and target species during this event include Band-tailed Pigeon, Western Tanager, Cedar Waxwing, Willow Flycatcher, Western Warbling-Vireo, Chipping Sparrow, Wilson’s Warbler, Heermann’s Gull, Rhinoceros Auklet, and Marbled Murrelet. They may even get lucky and find a rarity like the Chestnut-sided Warbler during the FOUP bird walk back in May.
This approved community event is listed for community awareness and takes place within the District of Oak Bay, but is organized by an independent group and not run by the District.
