Arts Alive
People’s Choice Award
goes to Copper Finch
sculpture by Erick James

Erick James’ sculpture Copper Finch is described as the ‘quiet anticipation of hope’. The work resonated with Oak Bay residents and visitors, capturing the Arts Alive People’s Choice Award for 2022. Copper Finch, is a powder coated metal origami bird creation currently perched on a piece of driftwood overlooking Mc Neill Bay, sponsored by RE/MAX. Second place was Metamorphasis by Peter Vogelaar, sponsored by The Zieglers /Newport Realty & Christies International / Tristan & Michael Ziegler and Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture, followed by Vordr by Victoria Artist, Frances Semple, sponsored by Oak Bay Marine Group.

Votes were collected online this year between August and November. Through a public call to artists, 6 installations were selected by an Arts Alive Volunteer Jury based on the theme of Kinship. The sculptures will remain on display outdoors in the community until April 2023. Walking maps are available at recreation centres encouraging residents to stroll through the district to view the remaining sculptures which are available for private purchase. https://www.oakbay.ca/sites/default/files/2022_BrochureArtsAlive.pdf
