In this role you will partner with architects, engineers, and residents to provide essential guidance and the technical insight needed to navigate zoning and building regulations. Reporting to the Director of Community Building and Planning Services, the Plans Checker is responsible for the intake, review and processing of building permit applications and their compliance with the BC Building Code and other applicable bylaws and regulations and performs inspections as required. The Plans Checker assists with other land use application processes and provides information and advice to the public and applicants on building and zoning related items.

Our ideal candidate has a Diploma in Building Technology, Civil Technology, Applied Planning (or a related discipline), a minimum of two years’ experience in municipal planning or plan checking plans, surveys and other related material, Level 1 Building Inspection certification, experience in the use computer software including Microsoft Office, Tempest, GIS and CAD programs, plus a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. An equivalent combination of training may be considered. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.
