12 February 2026

Oak Bay, B.C. – The District of Oak Bay is pleased to announce the 2025 Arts Alive People’s Choice Award winner, The Kiss by David Hunwick.

2025 was another vibrant year for public art with the Arts Alive annual outdoor sculpture program. Residents and visitors embraced the opportunity to explore, reflect on and vote for their favourite works from this year’s diverse collection.

The Kiss by local artist David Hunwick received the highest number of public votes. This sculpture captured residents with intimate composition and expressive design making it standout along Oak Bay Avenue.

Honourable mentions go to two other sculptures which sparked significant admiration and conversation throughout the season:

  • Cosmos Wheels, by Doug Taylor: A dynamic, celestial-inspired piece that rotates with the slightest gust of wind in McNeill Bay. The sculptures intricate and playful geometry made it a favourite among art lovers of all ages.
  • Baba Yaga Little Free Library, by Erick James: A whimsical fusion of folklore and community spirit that delighted residents with its playful design and functional charm. Be sure to stop by to check out a book from this little free library.

The Arts Alive program continues to strengthen Oak Bay’s identity as a hub for accessible, engaging public art. Each sculpture, whether reflective, bold, or delightfully unexpected, contributes to a cultural landscape that invites exploration and sparks conversation.

The District of Oak Bay extends its gratitude to all participating artists, sponsors, and community members who cast their votes and supported the 2025 exhibition.

Planning is already underway for the 2026 Arts Alive exhibition, heralding the 10th year of creativity, discovery, and community connection. Oak Bay is currently seeking sponsors to support this momentous year.
