22 October 2025

Oak Bay, B.C. – There are not many items you can get for 1975 prices, but on Friday, October 24, Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture will be turning back the clock to celebrate Oak Bay Recreation Centre’s 50th anniversary with activities and old-school admission prices.

Oak Bay Recreation Centre, located at 1975 Bee Street in Oak Bay, will be hosting a family fun day. This includes charging 1975 admission prices on Friday, October 24. Activities for all ages will include a kid zone with a bouncy castle, 70s-themed swims and skates, music trivia, archival displays and more.

“Oak Bay Recreation Centre has remained a pillar of the community, bringing people together from across the region for 50 years,” said Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch. “We’re proud that it remains a destination for so many in 2025, a testament to the continued investment made over the years and to our innovative recreation staff who keep the facility, equipment, and programming relevant year over year.”

Oak Bay Recreation Centre opened on October 24, 1975. Since then, the Centre has grown to become valued community hub offering programs across a wide variety of activities, like skating, swimming, tennis, fitness, cultural programming and more for community members of all ages.

“Our dedicated team is excited to celebrate this milestone with the community,” said Thomas Soulliere, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “We look forward to serving future generations of residents in the decades to come.”

The Parks, Recreation and Culture department operates five facilities, including Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Henderson Recreation Centre, Monterey Recreation Centre, Windsor Pavilion and the Neighbourhood Learning Centre (located in Oak Bay High School), as well as parks, beaches and green spaces across the District of Oak Bay.
