The morning of July 8th, Oak Bay Public Works received a call from Oak Bay Fire Department to assist with a fuel spill in Bowker Creek. Staff from Public Works attended Bowker Creek at Bee St. with absorbent booms and pads. These were also added at various locations in the creek in Oak Bay’s boundaries, the last location being at Beach Drive.
Oak Bay was in contact with the Ministry of Environment prior to Public Works arriving, with the Ministry attending the site and approving the District’s response.
The Ministry, alongside neighbouring municipalities, worked to confirm the source.
The District remains committed to clean-up up efforts in Bowker Creek and has been receiving support from the City of Victoria.
Oak Bay Public Works is monitoring the situation and continue to replace booms and pads throughout the weekend.
