Oak Bay Sewer Discharge Notice

Victoria, BC- On Tuesday (September 2, 2014), heavily diluted sewage was discharged through two CRD short outfalls in Oak Bay as a result of a major rain event. There were two short duration discharges at both locations lasting approximately 20 minutes and 60 minutes each resulting in a total volume of approximately 5,000 cubic metres.

In light of the continued warm weather, shoreline sampling was undertaken Wednesday morning and the results have indicated higher than normal fecal coliform levels in the Cadboro Bay beach area. In consultation with Island Health and the local municipalities, Cadboro Bay beach will be posted with public health advisory signs until follow-up sample results are below the 200 CFU/100mL recreational limit. The signage will be removed once the fecal coliform levels are below the recreational limit.
