Assistant Fire Chief

Annual Salary - $157,342 - $169,440 (2024 rates)

The District’s Fire Department is seeking a dynamic, progressive Assistant Fire Chief to join their leadership team and support the delivery of quality fire and emergency services.
Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, this position provides leadership and direction to the Platoon Captains and Officers, ensuring efficient and effective planning, organization and execution of department service delivery. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with a strong commitment to public safety, organizational excellence, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of fire service operations, administration, emergency management, and regulatory requirements. They will also possess exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with sound judgment in complex and high-pressure situations, and have a demonstrated ability to lead change, manage multiple priorities, and inspire high-performing teams while maintaining a strong commitment to public service.
To be successful in this role the following is required:
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal fire or emergency services environment.
- NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III certification.
- First Responder certification.
- Post-secondary education in Fire Executive Management, Leadership, Labour Relations, Human Resources, Business or Public Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- A valid Class 3 BC Driver's Licence with Air Brake endorsement is also required.
Residence requirement: Exempt Fire Department staff are on call for portions of their off-duty hours and are subject to a restricted area of residence. Shortlisted candidates will be advised of the specific requirements.
