Oak Bay Coolkit Presents: Helping Nature Thrive in Oak Bay
Join us for our next Oak Bay Coolkit presentation!
Biodiversity Begins at Home – Wylie Thomas
Biodiversity loss is accelerating globally, with scientists warning it could rival past mass extinctions. Here in Oak Bay, however, each of us can take meaningful action. By planting native species from our local Garry Oak ecosystem, we can support biodiversity while creating landscapes more resilient to climate change—better adapted to longer summer droughts and rising temperatures.
Nature Based Cities – Patricia Dijack
Cities around the world are integrating nature into urban design to protect residents from extreme heat, flooding, drought, and pollution. Explore our unique ecosystems in BC and Canada, and learn which six of the CRD’s 10 globally significant Key Biodiversity areas are located in Oak Bay. Discover what individuals and governments are doing to protect and enhance these fascinating ecosystems for future generations, including the new Camossung UNESCO biosphere proposal.
