DESCRIPTION:Big Hank Lionhart\, is also known as Uncle Wiggly\, and this year marks Hank’s 61st year in the music business—a career that began in Edmonton during high school and continued in Seattle while attending art school. \nHank played in several notable bands in Edmonton before moving to Victoria in 1978\, where he formed the infamous Uncle Wiggly’s Hot Shoes Blues Band. The band was signed to RCA Records and opened shows for legends such as Muddy Waters\, Joe Cocker\, and George Thorogood. They represented British Columbia at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee. \nIn 1985\, Hank moved to Vancouver\, where he met Steve Cross. Together\, they founded The Toasters\, becoming a mainstay in Vancouver’s vibrant Blues & R&B scene during the 1980s. The Toasters opened for the Neville Brothers\, Koko Taylor\, and John Mayall. Later\, Jack Lavin joined the band\, and they became The Kingpins\, recording two albums featuring original songs penned by Jack. \nAfter The Kingpins\, Hank returned to Edmonton and formed Big Hank & A Fist Full of Blues\, a group that lasted nine years and recorded two albums of original material. During this time\, Hank met his wife\, Kim and in 2014\, they relocated to Victoria\, where Hank reformed the original Uncle Wiggly’s Hot Shoes Blues Band. The band achieved recognition by winning the right to represent British Columbia at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. \nAs some members of Uncle Wiggly’s retired\, Hank retired the band and reformed The Toasters\, later renamed The Smokin’ Hot Toasters. Hank also performs with the Blue Heart Folk Blues Trio\, alongside Mark Comerford from Uncle Wiggly’s and Mick Woodhouse from The Toasters. Hank continues to enjoy singing and performing live. \nThey play a Smokin’ Hot collection of great dance tunes a mix of R&B\, Rocking Blues and Swing\, you won’t want to miss this night of outstanding music\, and wear your comfy shoes\, you’ll be dancing all night! \nThe band features Big Hank (Uncle Wiggly) Lionhart – (lead vocals)\, Stewart McLellan – (guitar & vocals)\, Mick Woodhouse (bass & vocals)\, Steve Ranta (keys & vocals)\, James McRae (drums) and Jonnie Bridgman – sax \n\nhttps://youtu.be/UNxOU9AGh-c?si=KbdhZ6uUOzOFDDWc \n\n\n\nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions.

SUMMARY:The Clover Point Drifters
DESCRIPTION:The Clover Point Drifters are a bluegrass band with a repertoire that consists primarily of traditional bluegrass songs\, with a sprinkling of country\, folk\, blues and pop melodies served up in the bluegrass style. Their songs feature close heartfelt duet and trio harmonies\, backed by strong banjo\, dobro and mandolin accompaniment. The band has been performing for over 16 years\, but the members each have a decades-long love affair with bluegrass music \nABOUT THE BAND: \nMike Kraft (banjo\, harmony vocals) is one of Victoria’s secrets that don’t involve underwear. Besides being one fine banjo player\, he also plays guitar in a variety of country\, rockabilly and blues bands. Basically\, any band that wants a real musician tries to snag him. Mike endured painful back surgery in 2003\, but now that his aura has been properly aligned\, he has re-established his rapport with the universe\, and he shares with us his humour and stock picks. He is a former member of The Chance Brothers. \nLarry Stevens (resophonic guitar\, lead vocals) has a gift for singing the country song\, good times and bad\, love and loss\, the past and even further past. For many years\, he lived in Vancouver and played the dobro with several bands\, including the New Nash Ramblers who were the BC Country Music Association Bluegrass Band of the Year. In 1999\, he drifted over to Victoria\, where his rich warm voice has become a welcoming and familiar sound. \nGeorge Robinson (bass\, lead vocals) has the longest pedigree in the band\, having played bluegrass bass since 1977. By good luck and happenstance that year\, he managed to obtain ownership of Duke Neilson’s bass (Duke played for many years with Don Messer and the Islanders\, a Canadian musical institution if ever there was one). Being thus equipped\, George spent the next 3 years on the road with the New Silver Tone Rangers\, with only 2 weeks off. Talk about cutting your teeth. Thanks to the unforgiving march of time\, he has now been playing this bass longer than Duke did. Other former bands include Every Day Street Band\, Cedar Hill and Back At The Ranch. \nDan Parker (mandolin\, lead vocals) drifted west from Ontario following a successful attempt to attain a higher education. He is one of those annoying people who\, if given some new musical instrument\, will spend almost no time at all making it sound like they have played it for years. And then he’ll show you the tune he has just written for it. If that isn’t enough\, he also built his own guitar. Dan’s spirited and inventive solos complement the plodding efficacy of the old farts. \nAlan Law (guitar\, lead & harmony vocals) does most of the arranging and supplies the beverages for rehearsals. That makes him the band leader. He is strictly a rhythm guitarist (“I do not play any notes”)\, but his drive\, passion and stamina are second to none. In a band of baritones\, he enjoys the role of tenor singer\, and he loves singing harmony more than almost anything you can imagine. Previous combos include playing with George in Back At The Ranch and with Mike in The Chance Brothers. \nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions. \nhttps://cloverpointdrifters.com

SUMMARY:Big Little Lions
DESCRIPTION:Big Little Lions are an award winning duo who were born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Helen\, who is no slacker either\, sings\, plays guitar and foot percussion. They use every limb\, and then some\, to make two people sound like a full band. \nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions.

SUMMARY:Get Back Unplugged: The Beatles Reimagined
DESCRIPTION:Get Back Unplugged\, The Beatles Reimagined aims to revisit some of the best loved songs of late-period Beatles\, and to deliver them with the joy and spontaneity of friends singing around a kitchen table. \nBringing together six stellar singers and players who\, between them\, span the worlds of folk\, Celtic\, blues\, jazz\, and classical music\, this intimate and engaging performance does not try to imitate the Fab Four\, but rather seeks to present renditions that are authentic to the musicians’ own unique voices. A fiddle can give a dazzling guitar solo? An accordion can be a menacing bulldog? With renditions ranging from Nova Scotia folk music vibes to classic Tina Turner\, audiences marvel at this group’s incredible interpretations! \n‘Get Back Unplugged’ started as an idea of Vancouver-based folk-pop trio The Wahs\, after seeing the recent Peter Jackson-produced documentary about the famous Get Back recording sessions and the celebrated Beatles rooftop concert. \nFeaturing The Wahs: \nCameron Wilson\, Violin\, vocals \nAndrew Hillhouse\, Vocals\, guitar \nBrent Gubbels\, Bass \nand special guests: \nLJ Mounteney\, Vocals\, ukulele\, percussion \nAllan Dionne\, Accordion\, vocals \nDavid Gibbons\, Vocals\, guitar \nHosted by Beacon Ridge Productions. \nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions.

SUMMARY:The Sutcliffes Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:A Beatles band with a slightly different take. The Sutcliffes focus is on the Beatles from Hamburg\, to the Cavern\, and the BBC studios- the songs they wrote\, the songs they covered and the songs they loved. They play early period songs\, with a nod to the more well-known tracks. They cover many of the Beatles seminal influences\, from early rock and roll classics like Chuck Berry’s Memphis\, to the slinky R&B of Anna and on to the country and rockabilly vein of I Got a Woman (their version of the Beatles doing Elvis’s cover of a Ray Charles song…). \nWhen the Sutcliffes were invited to play The Liverpool Beatles Festival they realized the dream of every kid who ever listened to the Beatles. The annual event sees tens of thousands of visitors make the pilgrimage to listen to some of the greatest performers from around the world. The Sutcliffes were the first artists from B.C. to ever be invited and were there with over 50 other acts from Europe\, Asia and North and South America. \nThe Sutcliffes are a band that is in high demand\, they have a huge following of devoted fans\, so be sure to get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Their last dance sold out more than two weeks in advance! \nHosted by Beacon Ridge Productions. \nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions.

SUMMARY:The Andrew Collins Trio
DESCRIPTION:Mando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself – through no actual fault of his own – at the epicentre of Canada’s acoustic/roots music scene. He didn’t invent it – but he’s certainly been a major contributor\, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking Tree String Quartet\, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and\, more recently\, his namesake Trio. That’s not to mention the fact that this prolific\, robust performer – comfortable on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, mandola and mandocello – composes\, produces\, arranges\, writes and teaches across multiple genres\, including an electrifying fusion of folk\, newgrass\, celtic\, and even a dash of chamber where warranted. \nAs Collins gathers up innumerable JUNO nominations (5) and Canadian Folk Music Awards (7) won by his various ensembles\, he’s zeroing in on the work he does with Trio-mates: fellow string guru Adam Shier\, whose versatility shines through on guitar and mandolin\, and in-the-pocket James McEleney holding it down on the bass\, mandocello and vocals. \nThe Trio just released their aptly titled album\, “The Rule of Three”\, drawing inspiration from the literary principle that a trio of elements is more impactful\, intricately weaving together visual and literary art’s “rule of thirds”. It’s an ingeniously intertwined homage to the trio’s unique and kinetic synergy. The album was recently nominated for 3 Canadian Folk Music Awards. \nHosted by Beacon Ridge Productions. \nTickets are available through Beacon Ridge Productions.

SUMMARY:The Hoss Mountain Stringband + Ella Korth
DESCRIPTION:The Hoss Mountain Stringband is a dynamic bluegrass ensemble based in Victoria\, British Columbia. Formed through connections within the local bluegrass community\, the band has become a staple in the region’s music scene. The ensemble is multi-generational\, and includes two members of the area’s famed long standing bluegrass band\, the Clover Point Drifters. Perhaps due to the mix of younger and more seasoned musicians\, their performances are characterized by high-energy renditions of both traditional and contemporary bluegrass tunes. Their music is also enriched by various influences such as old-time and swing. \nThe band consists of Paul Moquin on guitar\,  Mike Kraft on banjo\, Alan Law on dobro\, Kris Boyd on mandolin\, Mark Johnson on bass and Ben Barrett-Forrest on violin. \nElla Korth is a singer-songwriter and driving guitar and banjo player.
\nThe Upstairs Lounge at Oak Bay Recreation Centre is an all ages licensed restaurant and bar\, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service\, the concert starts at 7:30 pm – Please note this is a LISTENING VENUE \nTickets are also available at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre\, in person or by phone (250) 595-7946\, as well as through or Beacon Ridge Productions. \nhttps://cloverpointdrifters.com

SUMMARY:WiL and Company
DESCRIPTION:WiL’s shows have been coined as legendary; his guitar style; ‘mesmerizing’; captivating listeners with his unusual strumming technique while creating lush\, fat and full acoustic guitar sounds that have become signature to the enigmatic fiery\, silver bearded frontman that heads up the west coast based Indie folk rock outfit known as wiL and Company. The company includes his long time drummer Keith Gallant and on occasion\, a roster of talented guest guitarists / musicians such as Shaun Verreault\, Mike Roma & Matt Bromley. \nWiL has been writing\, recording and touring since the release of his thrice WCMA nominated (including a nod for Best Live Act )\, debut album\, Both Hands sending him on tour across Canada with artists such as Colin James\, Matthew Good\, Burton Cummings and Matt Andersen. Standouts include opening for soul legend Mavis Staples\, Canadian Indie darling\, Feist\, The Hip and one of his music heroes\, Ray LaMontagne. \nWith countless shows under his belt\, and a few sweet accolades that include penning ’Roam’\, the award winning anthem for Travel Alberta\, he spends his time off the road penning music for TV & film\, practicing Goju Ryu Karate and riding anything with two wheels.wiL and Company are on tour in April 2025 promoting an upcoming new track called ‘Pieces’“Comparisons abound: John Mayer\, Bob Iver.. but let it be said that this Calgary-bred\, Vancouver Island based artist has set his own standard for sensitive singer-song craft\, helped by a series of gorgeous music videos by Travel Alberta but to break the sensitive singer-songwriter stereotype\, Wil Mimnaugh is decidedly unwimpy on stage – his website isn’t called ibreakstrings.com just because it sounds cool” – Gig City Edmonton \nThe Upstairs Lounge is a licensed restaurant and bar\, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service\, the concert starts at 7:30 pm \nPlease note this is a LISTENING venue. \nTickets are also available at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre\, in person or by phone (250) 595-7946\, as well as through or Beacon Ridge Productions. \n  \nhttps://ibreakstrings.com/

SUMMARY:Ray Bonneville
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed raconteur and JUNO Award Winner Ray Bonneville strips his bluesy Americana to its essentials and steeps it in the humid grooves of the South\, creating a compelling poetry of hard living and deep feeling. His ninth release\, At King Electric\, delivers more than his trademark grit and groove. Rich guitar and harmonica lines resonate over spare but spunky rhythms\, while Bonneville’s deep\, evocative voice confesses life’s harsh realities. \nOften called a “song and groove man\,” Bonneville has lived the life of the itinerant artist. From his native Quebec\, he moved to Boston at age twelve\, where he learned English and picked up piano and guitar. Later\, he served in Vietnam and earned a pilot’s license in Colorado before living in Alaska\, Seattle\, and Paris. Six years in New Orleans infused his musical sensibilities with the region’s culture and rhythms. And then\, a close call while piloting a seaplane proved pivotal: \nAfter two decades working as a studio musician\, playing rowdy rooms with blues bands\, and living hard\, Bonneville’s lifetime of hard-won experience coalesced into an urge to write his own music. Whether performing solo or fronting a band\, playing electric or acoustic guitar\, Bonneville allows space between notes that adds potency to every chord\, lick\, and lyric. Often called a “song and groove man\,” he began writing his own music after two decades working as a studio musician\, playing rowdy rooms with blues bands\, and living hard. He’s since released nine albums\, won Canada’s Juno Award and other prestigious honors\, earned wide critical acclaim\, and garnered an enthusiastic following in the U.S.\, Canada\, and Europe. \nhttps://raybonneville.com/ \nTickets are also available at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre\, in person or by phone (250) 595-7946\, as well as through or Beacon Ridge Productions. \n

SUMMARY:Steve Dawson with Fats Kaplin
DESCRIPTION:Juno Award-winning guitarist\, producer and songwriter Steve Dawson will be making a quick swing through the west coast of Canada in April 2025 and will have legendary sideman Fats Kaplin in tow from Nashville. Steve’s unique voice on slide and lap steel guitar is front and centre\, while the two musicians improvise and play off each other as they have done in their frequent work together. Steve’s original songs and fiery slide guitar playing are the focus\, along with the duo’s unique take on blues\, Hawaiian\, and ragtime music that both musicians love to play. While Steve is well-known to Canadian audiences in his frequent visits back to Canada\, Fats Kaplin is sure to be an exciting new find to many. Fats has spent a great deal of time on the road with artists like Jack White\, John Prine\, Mitski\, Beck\, Tom Russell\, The Dead Reckoners\, and Buddy Miller to name just a few. His facility on the fiddle\, mandolin\, banjo\, oud\, accordion\, and whatever he can lay his hands on makes him one of the most in-demand side-players in modern music. It’s rare for these 2 musicians to find a week where they are both available to tour together\, but find it they have\, and they look forward to sharing an exciting night of music with audiences in BC. \nOver the past two decades\, Steve Dawson has become such an indelible fixture on the Canadian musical landscape that it’s tempting to take him for granted. The music that flows out of him is so natural and authentic that it’s possible to forget all of the toil that went into producing it.  Behind the seemingly endless stream of award winning musical output (he has produced and/or played on more than 200 albums since the turn of the millennium\, 7 of which have won Juno Awards)\, is one of the hardest working musicians this country has ever produced. Whether he’s turning heads on the concert circuit with his incendiary playing\, or pulling the best possible performances out of the many artists that he works with in the studio\, Dawson is always striving to take things to the next level. \nA native of Vancouver\, Canada\, he currently resides in Nashville\, where he works as a solo artist\, sideman\, and record producer\, Steve has forged an impressive career full of highlights and awards\, including: \n\n7 Juno Awards as artist/producer\, 18 times nominated\n3 times named “Producer Of The Year” at Western Canadian Music Awards\n4 times named “Producer Of The Year” at Canadian Folk Music Awards\nRecipient of many other awards including Maple Blues Awards\, Grand Prix De Jazz De Montreal\, Blues Blast Awards\, and many Western Canadian Music Awards and Canadian Folk Awards as an artist and producer\n\nThe Upstairs Lounge is a licensed restaurant and bar\, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service.  Please note this is a LISTENING venue. \nTickets are also available at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre\, in person or by phone (250) 595-7946\, as well as through or Beacon Ridge Productions. \n  \nhttps://www.stevedawson.ca/
