Construction Notice: Beach Drive – Paving from Newport Ave to 987 Beach Drive

February 10, 2022

On behalf of the District of Oak Bay, Island Asphalt Company will begin paving Beach Drive the week of February 14, 2022. Crews will work between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and the work is expected to be completed over a five-day period. The date may shift slightly if there is inclement paving weather or other mitigating factors.

Residents can expect construction crews, paving and grinding equipment and loud grinding noises.

Throughout this project, no trees are scheduled to be removed.

Traffic/Parking Impacts
No Parking will be allowed on Beach Drive during the paving. There may be temporary delays with accessing or exiting driveways. Island Asphalt and Public Works staff will communicate with residents during construction to accommodate any specific needs. To enable the work to proceed as efficiently as possible, we ask that you refrain from parking along this section of roadway during construction and ask that you park your vehicle(s) on your driveway or on an adjacent street.

The work will involve grinding along the edges or the whole road and overlaying the whole road with new asphalt. Just prior to the asphalt being put down, a layer of oil will be sprayed on the road. Please use caution and avoid driving oil onto your driveways during this stage of construction (usually around 1 to 2 hours adjacent to each driveway).  If you require extra assistance, or need to let us know of a particular consideration, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We shall endeavour to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding, and should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call.

Sincerely,

David Brozuk
