Island Road Water Main Rehabilitation

The Island Road Water Main rehabilitation project is planned to replaced aging water mains on Island Road from Central Avenue to McNeill Avenue.  The project is part of the District's water main rehabilitation program, with the aim of improving the integrity of the water system for domestic use and for fire-fighting purposes.

The first phase of the project, completed in winter 2018, replaced the water main from Central Avenue to Hazel Street.  The second phase of the project will replace the water main from Hazel Street to McNeill Avenue.  The second phase of the project began in early May 2019.

Residents can expect delays and an increase in noise, dust and traffic.  Residents are asked to refrain from parking along the shoulder of the roadway front their lots (or consider parking vehicles in driveways or on adjacent streets) when the construction activity approaches their properties.

Residents can expect that, upon completion of the project, boulevards will be restored and Island Road will be reinstated with new pavement.  Island Road will be modelled in terms of design and width so that it resembles Byng Street one block to the East.

Questions or concerns about this proejct can be directed to the District's Engineering Services department, at 250-598-3311 or engineering@oakbay.ca.
