SUMMARY:The Hoss Mountain Stringband + Ella Korth
DESCRIPTION:The Hoss Mountain Stringband is a dynamic bluegrass ensemble based in Victoria\, British Columbia. Formed through connections within the local bluegrass community\, the band has become a staple in the region’s music scene. The ensemble is multi-generational\, and includes two members of the area’s famed long standing bluegrass band\, the Clover Point Drifters. Perhaps due to the mix of younger and more seasoned musicians\, their performances are characterized by high-energy renditions of both traditional and contemporary bluegrass tunes. Their music is also enriched by various influences such as old-time and swing. \nThe band consists of Paul Moquin on guitar\,  Mike Kraft on banjo\, Alan Law on dobro\, Kris Boyd on mandolin\, Mark Johnson on bass and Ben Barrett-Forrest on violin. \nElla Korth is a singer-songwriter and driving guitar and banjo player. Growing up in a musical family in BC has shaped her sound\, which is influenced by bluegrass and folk music and her perspective as a painter. She has spent time in the Winnipeg music scene and now lives in Nashville\, TN. \nWith her musical project\, Ella has played numerousl festivals including Kluane Mountain and Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festivals\, Oly Old Time\, NimbleFingers\, and the Folk’n Fiddle Music Festival. She frequently collaborates and co-writes with singer-songwriters and instrumentalists in her community\, including Trent Freeman and Madeleine Roger (The Fretless). \nElla made her debut album in Nashville\, which will be released in 2025 and was produced by John Mailander (touring and recording artist for Bruce Hornsby and Billy Strings). A busy side person\, Ella has toured with Leith Ross across the US\, Canada\, and the UK. She has played guitar for John Reischman\, Madeleine Roger\, Boy Golden\, Le Ren\, and is frequently collaborating with people in the bluegrass scene in Nashville. \nThe Upstairs Lounge is a licensed all ages restaurant and bar\, doors open at 6 pm for dinner service\, the concert starts at 7:30 pm. Please note this is a LISTENING VENUE. \nTickets are also available at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre\, in person or by phone (250) 595-7946\, as well as through or Beacon Ridge Productions. \nhttps://hossmountain.com/
