SUMMARY:Friends of Uplands Park 2026 Insect BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Uplands Park 2026 BioBlitz \n\nAugust 7-10\, 2026\nUplands Park\, Oak Bay \nJoin Friends of Uplands Park for their 2026 BioBlitz and help document the incredible insect biodiversity found within one of Oak Bay’s most ecologically significant natural areas. Participants of all ages and experience levels are invited to contribute observations through iNaturalist throughout the weekend. \nSpecial activities include a Light Sheet Night on Friday\, August 7 from 9–11 p.m.\, and a guided Bug Walk on Sunday\, August 9 at 10 a.m.\, followed by refreshments at 12 p.m. Participants should meet at the Beach Drive entrance to Cattle Point for scheduled activities. \nThe BioBlitz runs from Friday through Monday and encourages community members to observe\, photograph\, and record insects and other species using iNaturalist to support local biodiversity research and conservation efforts. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk – Cattle Point & Uplands Park\n\nSaturday\, August 1\, 10:00 a.m.\nCattle Point (main parking lot)\, Uplands Park \n\nThis month’s Friends of Uplands Park bird walk is taking place Saturday\, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the main parking lot of Cattle Point. They will focus on the identification of the year-round and summer residents as well as southbound migrants. Fall migration is already picking up and target species during this event include Band-tailed Pigeon\, Western Tanager\, Cedar Waxwing\, Willow Flycatcher\, Western Warbling-Vireo\, Chipping Sparrow\, Wilson’s Warbler\, Heermann’s Gull\, Rhinoceros Auklet\, and Marbled Murrelet. They may even get lucky and find a rarity like the Chestnut-sided Warbler during the FOUP bird walk back in May. \n\n\n\n\nThis approved community event is listed for community awareness and takes place within the District of Oak Bay\, but is organized by an independent group and not run by the District.

You’ll also have the opportunity to view the Oak Bay heat map to see which neighbourhoods are most vulnerable to extreme heat. \nHelp support biodiversity\, climate action and community stewardship while learning practical gardening skills.
