Bowker Creek Walkway

Location:
Foot of Armstrong Street to Monterey Avenue
Park Category:
Green Space, Developed
Description:

The main channel of Bowker Creek flows through the Municipalities of Saanich, Victoria, and Oak Bay.  Over 8 kilometres in length, only 2.5 kilometres of the creek remains open with the rest flowing underground through pipes and culverts. The majority of the open section of the creek is in Oak Bay and, in 2001, Oak Bay was commended for taking a lead in preserving and maintaining the Bowker Creek corridor.

The vision for Bowker Creek and its watershed is articulated in the Bowker Creek Watershed Management Plan which was developed under the sponsorship of the Capital Regional District (CRD) in January 2003.

The plan was adopted in principle by Oak Bay Municipal Council in August 2003.  In recognition of the long term benefits which will accrue to Oak Bay from the Bowker Creek Watershed Management Plan, in 2004, Oak Bay began to contribute towards the CRD  Watershed Implementation Coordinator position.
